Recruiting Forum Football Talk XLIII

Some fans/media are cracking me up about Gruden not being able to translate his O to the college game. Do you think they just fling a playbook at the players and say, "Read this, we will test you on it in a couple of weeks. Be ready to go."? He is a teacher of football to all ages. So the staff will reflect that as well.

He already has a system of operations. He would build the schemes and playbook to the strengths of the current roster and transition it to what his end goal is as new players that are recruited for the purpose are signed and developed. He knows all aspects of offensive styles/schemes. He's not a "system" coach. We don't need or want another "system" coach. If we hire one, even if it is not Gruden, Currie has messed this search up badly.

Thank you.

This is def turning into the baseball search. Local media is all over the place hearing different things than the other and all are not sure what is going on. It's leading to wild speculation. Currie got all of us running in circles trying to guess what he is doing.

Yet Stoops isn’t being mentioned anywhere.

Sigh.

You cats are going to have 24 pages for me when I wake up, I will know nothing definitively from all of it, but I'll still waste 2 hours of time I don't have to read through it, because I'm a man out of control.

I am feeling the same way, only 12 hours behind you.

That’s when NSD was first week of Feb.

I guess they could wait until the end of the season to announce if it’s gruden.
Meyer struck a deal on November 17. Reports were denied but on nov 28th it was confirmed.

The latest we get someone will be monday after the vandy game of Currie is worth his salt.

The only reason we get to the vandy game without a coach, IMO, is if we’re hiring and active one.

NSD is still in February.

Sunday after Vandy is the earliest we are gonna know. Will go later than the week before SECCG if it’s not Gruden or an unemployed coach.

I think the notion that he is using UT as leverage for anything is about as ridiculous as the one that we're using Gruden as a smokescreen for Mullen/Patterson/Frost/etc.

Exactly. There is nothing for Gruden to leverage to that he has not already achieved in sports broadcasting. ESPN is hemorrhaging cash terminating staff and on air personalities right and left. They may be spun out at some point. No mo money for Jon there. The Colts offered him HC last year - he passed. This stuff is not a smokescreen IMO - he's got career decisions to make and the time is now.

If Tampa thinks he's about to take a college job in November they might have to fire their guy sooner than they want. That's the angle he could be trying to work.

If this is the case, Gruden would be forcing the Bucs to fire their coach before they might truly want to. That doesn't seem to be at all consistent with the type of individual he is.

Gruden going to Tampa would be like us hiring Kiffin. I hope he has more pride than that and goes to Tennessee where we will throw a parade and confetti if he comes.

Head to head they wouldn't feel threatened but it seems likely they are going to make a change.

He’s not leveraging the UT job against the Bucs. If anything he’s looking for attention or looking for leverage on a new deal. Heard him say the other day his espn contract is not guaranteed.

LWS and Hubbs are both filtering for bs though. That’s what sets them apart.

Basilio would just say “I’m hearing it’s done.”

Hubbs and LWS would normally not even mention they heard something they don’t believe to be true. Not their first rodeo.

There’s enough smoke out there that I think it’s real. At the same time I don’t think anyone who is the source of one of these “it’s done” stories is credible enough for Hubbs or Larry to trust it. The credible people are either saying it’s not done or they aren’t talking.

This is the bottom line. Nobody wanted to hear it from me yesterday, but Hubbs and LWS literally said they’re hearing it but don’t trust it, and everyone is just ignoring that and saying, “Well, clearly they trust it or else they wouldn’t even mention it.” Come on. Do better, guys.

Not really sure how much stock put in to all these players hinting at a huge hire. I'm assuming they're taking about Gruden. Don't understand how or why so many of them would actually be told who the coach is going to be and expect so many to keep it under wraps. Switching gears a little bit, I wouldn't be surprised if Doeren ended up being the guy.

Gruden would make the most simple yet intricate college O out there. He’s an X and O genius and would be able to top anyone’s system.

Again, context. Larry and Hubbs are both notoriously pessimistic. Both have a "I won't believe it until I see it" attitude when it comes to anything good happening to UT.

Larry is still basking in the days when he was buddies with Fulmer and Hubbs has been around enough incompetence to think that Tennessee is a permanent 8-4 program.

They're both biased and it shows. The fact that they're both acknowledging it's a possibility and people have told them it's going to happen/already did happen is a big deal, IMO.

I don't understand stand why people think he needs leverage to get back in the NFL??? That's some serious top 1% thinking right there 🙄

They were saying on 104.5 this morning that even if he did come it would only be for 2-3 years so he could jump back to the NFL. He doesn't NEED to coach here to get back in the League.

People are crazy.

Take a lap. (sorry BZ I had to its a classic now)

I think Hubbs, Hyams, 247, ect have limited News cause Currie not sharing within AD. The leaks are comin from boosters which Hubbs and them can’t really always get as a trusted source.

You're backing up your PE teacher but the fact of the matter is that he's still about to tell you take another lap

But aren’t you almost a day ahead of us? :)

Your last sentence is the real takeaway from Hubbs posting lately.

But VN is running overboard with it too.

This is pretty laughable.

First off, Gruden would almost certainly never do this.

Secondly, the Glazers have Mourinho over at Man Utd and they keep him on a leash. The Special One has 10,000 times the ego and prowess of Chucky
