Recruiting Forum Football Talk XLIII

This all day. I think that as the NFL continues to take a hit in regards to popularity, we will see college football grow even larger.

The influx of money and big name coaches into the sport is just beginning, IMO. With the money available I feel NFL coaches are going to view powerhouse collegiate jobs as on par, if not better, than the NFL grind.

The power play from a coaches viewpoint lies in the HC position in college, not the NFL.

Saban's model at Bama probably looks really appealing to NFL coaches. They can have a support staff that's similar to what they have in the league.

We should know something soon either way.

The Grumors haven't been shot down because it's still possible he takes the job. If he turns it down, expect a release from his agent saying it was all "fantasy land" stuff or for Currie to leak something about talking to Patterson or Mullen.

Or him to take the job

My opinion is that is why all of the media are shooting the idea of Gruden down. Rumor has it that he will extremely limit access. That will directly imlact their jobs so thats why they dont want it to happen.

Nah. It’s cause they know if they give it a shot and it doesn’t happen they will be viewed as being wrong.

They are careful not to give it much of a chance because if it doesn’t happen(which they don’t believe it will anyway) they lose credibility just by suggesting it.

Look at Hargis. Even though he’s been proven to have been right (Hyams has even acknowledged it now) his credibility took a hit because Gruden wasn’t hired and the agent called it fantasy.

Media guy reputations are a thing of the past. Way too much buffoonery generated in the pursuit of edgy entertainment. Try to get one to admit that they’re out of the loop...I dare you! :)

You may be right and I hope you are! This is just my take on the tea leaves at the moment. I’m completely fascinated though and would love Gruden to come.

I don't really buy this because what they think has zero impact on the hire.

Agreed.

Given the level of "racket" around Gruden with the fanbase, Currie would be wise to put as much time between no Gruden and the next guy being named.

That’s when NSD was first week of Feb.

I guess they could wait until the end of the season to announce if it’s gruden.
Meyer struck a deal on November 17. Reports were denied but on nov 28th it was confirmed.

The latest we get someone will be monday after the vandy game of Currie is worth his salt.

The only reason we get to the vandy game without a coach, IMO, is if we’re hiring and active one.

Currie’s calling recruits now...including decommits like Cade Mays. He’s selling them something. Patience with expected big boom payoff. A week extra doesn’t mess that up. Then you have basically a month without having to talk code.

This is kinda what I think too, IF it's true that yesterday was a pivotal day. It's possible that discussions are still ongoing.

Yet Stoops isn’t being mentioned anywhere.

If his brother wasn't in same division I'd give it more thought especially with what Gus Johnson said last wknd during Ok game broadcast that he isn't so sure Stoops is done coaching per the boss man( referring to his wife)

After sleeping on all of the info from yesterday, the quotes from Hubbs and LWS, and reading all of the discussions, all I can say is...

Gruden is coming. And he’s coming soon.

If you knew somebody could possibly be hired that directly affected your job and how you are able to do it, would you publicly support that hire?

Alright guys, I have heard from sources how the press conference will go. It will be Hollywood like, since ESPN will be the network carrying the coverage.

The camera will start showing a helicopter flying in the distance, it will zoom in to show that it is a Monday Night Football helicopter flying over Knoxville. The camera now zooms closer to show Gruden standing at an open door in the helicopter. He jumps, salutes the Monday Night crew, and yells thanks for the Monday Night gig...

As Gruden is diving down, the Monday Night crew helicopter's camera catches Gruden chute supporting the power T on it. He is headed toward Neyland Stadium...

He land in the Checker Boards. The Pride of the Southland Band starts to form the T, then Gruden struts to the podium...

When Helicopter Coach steps to the podium, he says...

Clay Travis perks up, but oh it's just his press conference notes.

Gruden gives a monumental speech...

He finishes by putting the rest of the SEC on notice.
Gruden: "I am now driving this Big Orange train, so if you don't want to get run over, I suggest you get off the tracks!", then...

At least this is how I heard it would go down from my source.
Disclaimer My source is my twisted mind.

Again, context. Larry and Hubbs are both notoriously pessimistic. Both have a "I won't believe it until I see it" attitude when it comes to anything good happening to UT.

Larry is still basking in the days when he was buddies with Fulmer and Hubbs has been around enough incompetence to think that Tennessee is a permanent 8-4 program.

They're both biased and it shows. The fact that they're both acknowledging it's a possibility and people have told them it's going to happen/already did happen is a big deal, IMO.

I’m like Ziti here — I think it depends on your definition of “a big deal.” Clearly it means that people are talking about Gruden, and Hubbs and Larry aren’t ready to completely shut it down as an option. But that’s all it means. They are acknowledging that while also making it clear (based on an objective reading of what they wrote) that they don’t trust the more optimistic stuff they’re hearing. We don’t know who is telling them what, but in my experience, when Hubbs is “speaking Hubbanese” about something he knows/believes is about to happen, he says it differently than what he said yesterday. If he knew it was going to happen, he would have emphasized the “rumor” and subtly downplayed the “but I have no proof of any of that” — yesterday, he did the opposite.
