The ESPN layoff news is the biggest thing we're not talking about from today. 100+ employees gone in an attempt to save $80 million+/year. They just laid off a ton of employees in April of this year, too.

I'm sure Bob LaMonte saw it coming. And even if Gruden isn't on the chopping block right now, it won't be long until he is.

Taking the Tennessee job at $10.3 million/year or whatever is in both of their best interests. Sure, Gruden would probably get scooped up by NBC or Fox. But he's not sniffing $6.5 million/year again.

And no NFL team is going to hire him for what Tennessee is willing to pay. If he takes the Tennessee job, he gets to spare himself the indignity of being fired publicly yet again. The wildcard, of course, is whether he just vastly prefers coaching in the NFL and is willing to do it at a lower salary than what he would make in Knoxville.

But man...if he crushes it in the college game and gets an extension, he would have $100+ million to his name by his mid-60s. And that's just UT money.

Dude must be a professional runner or something.

LOL. I mean, seriously, I would love it if he came, but I just don’t see it. It would be so extraordinary if it actually happened. People want to compare to Urban, but there were legit reports at this point that he was going to OSU. There’s nothing here except these message board insiders and reading too much into what Gruden and Currie are or aren’t doing.

I don’t really care about people falling for the Grumors except to the extent (1) it hurts us with other coaches, which it reportedly has, or (2) if it indulges fan delusions such that the new coach doesn’t have full fan support and every opportunity to succeed.

The ONLY reason i have a sliver of faith in Gruden is because he hasnt come out and said so

Knowing that he snuck into town without being seen doesn’t give you hope? The same guy who strutted around market square and then sat with the crowd instead of in a box at the game?

This is the best thing I have read all day. Makes a lot of sense to me.

If the FAU coach was named Joey Riverwater he’d be my top choice.

The guy is about to be 10-3 at FAU with a conference title in his first year. Pretty crazy to think about the job he's doing with a program that went 3-9 in its previous 3 seasons. Say what you want about him off the field, but on the field, Kiffin is an outstanding football coach.

It will ultimately come down to what Cindy wants. And we have all heard what she wants. Jon may as well have a job close to home.

Until you hear that it's not happening from the man or his agent, never say never to nuthin'.

It's a huge win for everybody and everything related to UT if it were to happen. It would be a huge win for the SEC and CFB in general. It's always been whether he wants to or not. Hope he does. If not, pick a real football coach with upside and get it done.

Someone needs to bump chargervol’s post about him doing it the other night. I mean I pretty much have it memorized but it gets a laugh from me every time I read it.

Here ya go

Bass cracked me up last night

Bass in the Gruden thread - " hey Beaver, is Gruden still coming?"

Another poster - " Beaver isn't going to answer a question like that"

Bass - " then he's a troll"

I had to look and make sure it was Bass. Just pulled his pants down, took a leak right on the beaver worship and left the room. Lol

Lol, slightly hypocritical of you butchna.

And yes, I can state as fact that any coach would recruit better at UT than at Mississippi St, especially one as good as Mullen. To say otherwise, well, is slightly ignorant.

Top 5 recruiting class annually isn’t “better”. It’s select company. To not recognize that is quite a thing to guarantee, supersedes ignorant.

I know what you're saying but I feel like he enjoys the attention. FWIW I do think both parties have/had at least some interest.
