This is the best thing I have read all day. Makes a lot of sense to me.

I think we're not considering LaMonte's role enough in all of this. He gets a cut of Gruden's salary. If Tennessee truly came at Gruden with an offer of $10+ million/year, LaMonte is going to push for that, probably at the expense of NFL offers. Especially if they aren't prime coaching opportunities...and I don't think there will be any in the league this offseason, as even the Colts, which were long rumored to be Gruden's landing spot, may be looking for a QB and are the worst team in the AFC South. Same thing with Tampa Bay depending on how this Winston thing plays out.

Gruden is already filthy rich, but that's a massive pay increase for a guy like LaMonte from a single client. And $10 million/year for a decade or so is like generational wealth. At that point you go from just being a really rich dude to being legitimately wealthy.

Top 5 recruiting class annually isn’t “better”. It’s select company. To not recognize that is quite a thing to guarantee, supersedes ignorant.

I was saying top 5 in the SEC, still select company though.

I think my statement of top 5 in the SEC vs your statement of mediocre are both just predictions, not fact by any means. We can agree to disagree on how he would do. However, one thing is for sure, he would definitely get more out of his recruits(and current players on the roster) than Butch ever did. This is also just a prediction based on how he has been able to do more with less at Miss St.

Until you hear that it's not happening from the man or his agent, never say never to nuthin'.

It's a huge win for everybody and everything related to UT if it were to happen. It would be a huge win for the SEC and CFB in general. It's always been whether he wants to or not. Hope he does. If not, pick a real football coach with upside and get it done.

Gruden is the "white whale" of football. Not just Tennessee but of many pro and college teams.

I think the feeling of us suffering from BVS is if he took the job, it would mean things were finally changing.. We won something that so many others wanted.

The fact that he has so many Tennessee ties, his kid goes here, and he attended game sitting in the stands makes you know that we have our foot in the door more than any college team out there. We just need to beat out those NFL teams. I really feel like the guy hasn't been studying and making notes all these years to just never coach again. Times ticking, he's not getting any younger and ESPN is laying off..

I know what you're saying but I feel like he enjoys the attention. FWIW I do think both parties have/had at least some interest.

Cat,

Last I had heard was he had an offer in his lap. Great offer. Called and checked today and still nothing different from before. So it’s either done or he is still considering. Once we hear Lamonte or UT say something to kill it, then I think it’s still possible because my contacts have not heard anything since last week when it was all in his court.

Agree. As does Tim Tebow. Relevant info starts about 4th paragraph down.

Tim Tebow talks Dan Mullen, Florida's QB battle, community service in college football - CBSSports.com

There are a handful of coaches that may consider being our HC that legitimately do that well. Mullen is one. Which is the biggest downfall of Butch, among several issues that brought him down. Which is also why he would exceed his MSU performance in an easier division while recruiting more talented players.

I had heard and read a few other places his deadline was yesterday or we were moving on.

Talking about trolling - where does Kiffin go after FAU? His phone is going to ring this off season and into the future.

That $51.4M is NBD. Just add a $5K TN Fund fee to each season ticket and it's covered.

$500. One time donation. And that would cover the whole $51 million (which obviously doesn’t account for the $16 million or so we would pay somebody else, and maybe more with a buyout).

At the end of the day, $10m/yr shouldn’t be a big deal if you get the right guy.
