Quick afternoon thought...
On this Thanksgiving Eve, Tennessee's coaching search remains full of speculation.
On Wednesday afternoon, USA Today reported that former Oregon coach Chip Kelly had turned down the Tennessee job. Multiple VolQuest.comsources, both around college football as well as close to Tennessees search, insist that is not true. Kelly has visited with both Florida and UCLA and is believed to be deciding between the two.
Vols athletics director John Currie is in the Bahamas watching his basketball team play Purdue. Currie will travel home on Thursday. Then the question becomes where Currie will be on Friday and this weekend.
This morning in the Topeka Capital-Journal, there was a story regarding some email exchanges with then AD Currie and other K-State officials regarding Jim Leavitt as a possible head coach in waiting.
There is not a ton of details or substance to the story, but this graph from one of Currie's emails is somewhat telling.
It would be big $ and a hassle to fly from NYC to Little Rock and back to NYC, but it certainly would make for excellent message board fodder and succession theatre, Currie said in an email to Veatch.
Willie Taggert is also referenced in the story as a part of the emails.
The biggest question right now appears to be what is Currie's travel plans when he returns from the Bahamas? We have not confirmed a day or location on a potential face-to-face visit to Dan Mullen, but it appears that is where it will likely start provided that Mullen agrees to a meeting.
