Florida's last two hires were a coordinator and a guy who was okay at CSU. They may have hit a home run in Kelly, but we will have to see.
Georgia's last two hires were coordinators.
LSU's last two hires are an interim they settled for who'd been a failure at his last permanent gig and a guy who was okay at Oklahoma State.
All of this programs have had *significantly* more success than us since the turn of the century. They all have multiple conference titles, BCS/NY6 bowls, and, in the case of UF/LSU, two national titles a piece.
We have a couple of Outback Bowl trophies, a leather helmet from the Chick Fil A kickoff, and a Buy One Get One Half Off coupon for Sizzler.
Gruden, Patterson, Petersen would all be phenomenal. But they are all extremely unlikely. Almost no programs make home run hires, and the ones that do are often in far better shape than Tennessee is now (the glaring exception is Washington, which was as bad or worse than Tennessee is now when they nabbed Petersen).
Brent Venables, Dan Mullen, Scott Frost are all good football coaches. I'm not going to claw my eyes out over them.
Durkin, on the other hand, I will drink bleach over.
And be bleach, I mean beer.
Bleach beer.
