DEFCON 1 is the desperation strategy-- the intervention to stop total destruction of the program. If Currie totally whiffs, then Fulmer and Peyton convince Cut to come back for a few years and help us right the ship. Cut can fill his staff with UT guys who want to come home and are invested in bringing the program back. If Currie can't get someone we're excited about and starts looking at losers, I think it's time to circle the wagons and bring in people who consider UT more than a job.
I know Cut isn't Gruden, Petersen or Patterson and he isn't the young It Coach like Frost, but the program is in trouble and he cares deeply about it. He's happy at Duke and he turned Hart down cold, but I think he'd come for Fulmer and Peyton. Of course, we all hope Currie has a great coach ready to announce and if he does, we'll know tomorrow.
