Once Doeren is hired, it's done. No sense picketing against him. He might be a terrible hire, but he didn't do anything other than take a job he was offered.

Bad administrations make bad decisions that lead to bad outcomes. We don't have to like it and we don't have to support it, but it's not Doeren's fault.

No. We can still let him know we don't want him here.

If he knows better he won't come.

This defeatist attitude is why we're in the mess we are.

I think it would be very hard for Schiano to successfully sue for defamation. he is a public figure, and a public figure must show not only that a false statement was made, but that the false statement was made in "reckless disregard" of the truth. To have reckless disregard, the declarant does not have to know that his statement was false, but it's not sufficient for the misstatement to be the result of negligence. This kind of showing is just so hard to show. In addition, statements of opinion, no matter how outrageous, cannot be the basis of a libel suit. To add to that, truth is a defense in a defamation case, and so, as mentioned above, the pretrial discovery could delve into what Schiano may have known. And I should add that litigation would be extremely expensive and Schiano would probably have to pay out of his own pocket.

In other words, I think it is unlikely that he has any recourse. The fact that the material quoted out of McQueary's deposition is hearsay would be helpful to Schiano, but the question isn't whether the statements by his detractors were based on hearsay, but rather whether they were both false and published in reckless disregard for the truth.

I think the more difficult part is establishing that the university was the tortfeasor in this case. They aren't responsible for the fans.

You know, Ive been rolling thks Peyton thing around here.

Does anybody think Peyton is suddenly on the Haslems side so that brother Bill can help him get his foot in the door politically?

I don't know. I can't think why he would support Shiano when the told his football team to basically break his (and Eli's) knees.

Real talk..
If this hire is made tomorrow, and they walk Dave D across that stage with a 90% disapproval rate from Vols fans...
It will be the perfect storm with all the stuff that’s happened in the past week..
They have whipped this fanbase into a epic frenzy..
All hell is gonna break lose tomorrow in Knoxville.
You can bet the farm on it.

Go Vols

Brohm was in the bag. Then Haslam pulled the offer. Toxic environment from fans had nothing to do with it. This whole search has been sabatoge by the corrupt Haslams from the very beginning.
I don't buy some of these narratives.

Hubbs said not true of the negotiations getting far today and made it sound unlikely last night.

How? How does that get the program back? That just makes this place a toxic dump and makes it more likely we will be the SEC doormat. I’d rather us win, even if Bahama John is still the AD and the Haslams are still VIPs. I care more about winning than getting revenge on the Haslams for being dumb or whatever.

How's that faith paying off?

College football is big money. A good to great team rakes in bookoos of money for that school. A great FB team equals a very profitable school equals a very prosperous community. Its a win win to make it the best it can be if you possibly can.

I can not fathom why the Haslams, in all of their "power, riches, and glory" would not want to hire the best football coach money could buy.

Corruption, ineptitude or both. Has to be.

I think the people who want the program to crumble to help oust the Haslams/damage them need a horrible hire to take place.

Doeren might be the worst hire we can make. Steele, as much as it pains me to say, could actually put together a nice staff and have some support given that he's a Vol.

Doeren is Butch Jones 2.0. He's going to get rejected by the fans instantly. If there's truly a mutiny that requires the destruction of the program, or something that resembles its destruction, Dave Doeren is probably the best guy to get that done.

Chad Morris, Brohm, even Pruitt--all of those guys would probably inspire enough confidence to keep things status quo. Doeren is bland/outright bad enough to cause a big dent in UT AD revenue and shake things up among fan support, IMO.

Maybe but are the Haslams really that dumb. They should know that and try for a better hire

Just gonna leave this here.

Hubbs said not true of the negotiations getting far today and made it sound unlikely last night.

He also said this morning that he was chasing rumors of Brohm being very interested. I think Hubbs for the most part is scrambling and confused just like us. He has more pieces to the puzzle then we do but he still doesn’t have them all.

Holy chit. I do not want Kiffin but if this is true the blue bloods have lost their minds.

Their are reasons you turn this down but most of them are upper crust elitist bs.

I'll agree with the blue bloods losing their minds section of the aforementioned article .........

If Blackburn was hired, do we have Gruden?

Nope. Gruden was never going out to coach here. I think Gruden was the other boosters chess piece to rally the fan base against Haslam and make him uncomfortable. If you read MIT, revolt and skeet twitter, you can see what is going on. It's a sad time for UT.
