Recruiting Forum Football Talk XLVIII (New Coach Edition)

These people have to get over this idea of finding a coach who is the opposite of the one that just left.

Kiffin was hired because he wasn't Fulmer.

Dooley was hired because he wasn't Kiffin.

Jones was hired because he wasn't Dooley.

Now they want a drill sergeant because Butch was lax?

Just get a guy who wins. Winning goes a long way to keeping the troops in line.

We the fans are going to have to stay pissed off. Don't buy into Doeren's bull crap at the press conference and don't buy in when he lands a couple big recruits. The only way we can fix this thing is with our wallets. I want season ticket sales to be at an all time low next year along with donations. Idc how it sounds but that's what it's going to take to get the program back.

At this point no one can agree. We can't agree who we want or even how to protest or handle the items we don't want. We are all part of the issue now at some level.

Haslam and Currie are the core issue without a doubt. Fans were justified in stopping the Schiano hire but it also went too far in many regards.
Now we truly are too toxic for most coaches, and that is not just because of Currie or Haslam or effed up administrations. It is also because we are so boiled over from 10 years of bad that short of Saban little can reset us.

I posted a couple of days ago:
Absolute power corrupts absolutely but money is the source of all evil. If you want to kill the power kill the money. If you dislike whoever they chose that is really your only vote.

I pray they get a guy that can weather the storm while they correct the administration because we won't get both right now.

Let me ask you all something. We have had a couple of posters in the FF that have been hinting about this skeeter stuff for a few days.

Why on earth would you want to wait till after the hire to release the info?

I'm wondering this as well. Release now so the AD can be reset and then maybe a competent coach would come

How? How does that get the program back? That just makes this place a toxic dump and makes it more likely we will be the SEC doormat. I’d rather us win, even if Bahama John is still the AD and the Haslams are still VIPs. I care more about winning than getting revenge on the Haslams for being dumb or whatever.

My response was in no way commenting on the hireability of Schiano. I agree that you just can't hire someone who "may" have known. I didn't want him.

Skeet tried to justify that Schiano would have filed a defamation suit if it wasn't true. So, therefore, there must be some merit to it. Under the law, Schiano can't file such a suit. So, that alone can not tend to show whether Schiano knew or not.

I think it would be very hard for Schiano to successfully sue for defamation. he is a public figure, and a public figure must show not only that a false statement was made, but that the false statement was made in "reckless disregard" of the truth. To have reckless disregard, the declarant does not have to know that his statement was false, but it's not sufficient for the misstatement to be the result of negligence. This kind of showing is just so hard to show. In addition, statements of opinion, no matter how outrageous, cannot be the basis of a libel suit. To add to that, truth is a defense in a defamation case, and so, as mentioned above, the pretrial discovery could delve into what Schiano may have known. And I should add that litigation would be extremely expensive and Schiano would probably have to pay out of his own pocket.

In other words, I think it is unlikely that he has any recourse. The fact that the material quoted out of McQueary's deposition is hearsay would be helpful to Schiano, but the question isn't whether the statements by his detractors were based on hearsay, but rather whether they were both false and published in reckless disregard for the truth.

Yes. I am as frustrated as anybody, but I just don’t get how people don’t see that flooding Twitter with tweets about how Doeren is hot garbage and wanting to watch the program burn to the ground help anything.

It's making players want to transfer and recruits not want to come. We just graduated 22 seniors, kicked off a few players we need and are getting ready to get hit with graduate transfers. The roster's already down. Given the 25 recruit limit, a stampede for the exit could set the program back even further.

We got some hope he will turn us down. But it does dispel what some were saying about how much they wanted him gone. It just never made sense to me how someone could be so hated at a college and not get fire.

I can't believe we are in a position of praying Dave Doeren turns us down.

What are these psychopaths in the administration thinking?

We need to keep blasting Doeren on Twitter so he knows we don't want him.

We could very easily organize. Organized protests take time but they are not difficult to set up. Pick a date, a location, and advertise the hell out of it. Things are actually getting better for once. We’re rattling the cage and making the higher ups nervous. We VASTLY outnumber them and we can and will win. Never give up, never give up, never give up

Yes, because if there is one thing Kiffin is known for, it is handling himself with poise and maturity.

He's been around the circus more than any of these other cats have.

While I like Brohm as a coach in a normal situation. This ain't one of those times.

Brohm was in the bag. Then Haslam pulled the offer. Toxic environment from fans had nothing to do with it. This whole search has been sabatoge by the corrupt Haslams from the very beginning.

I think the people who want the program to crumble to help oust the Haslams/damage them need a horrible hire to take place.

Doeren might be the worst hire we can make. Steele, as much as it pains me to say, could actually put together a nice staff and have some support given that he's a Vol.

Doeren is Butch Jones 2.0. He's going to get rejected by the fans instantly. If there's truly a mutiny that requires the destruction of the program, or something that resembles its destruction, Dave Doeren is probably the best guy to get that done.

Chad Morris, Brohm, even Pruitt--all of those guys would probably inspire enough confidence to keep things status quo. Doeren is bland/outright bad enough to cause a big dent in UT AD revenue and shake things up among fan support, IMO.

Well said. The only thing is, right now, if we don't keep the pressure on, the administration weathers this particular storm and it might be 2 years before there's another storm (or 3, or ?). If enough pressure is applied now, while we have our voice, we might effect the beginning of something that who knows, could happen quickly or a lot quicker than if we retreat and accept their dictates again. I don't know what the proper course of action should be, but I don't feel like this particular battle is over in this war and I'm at least going to fight until the battle is over. :good!:

Skeet - is there any hope for UT football ?

I’ll hang up and listen.

Open your eyes man. There is no winning with the Haslams in charge. You want to keep rolling along with hopes of getting lucky with a hire that can win. Have you seen the coaches we are going after? Do you think Lady Luck is on the side of any of them?

Skeeter, are the Haslams intentionally ruining UT football? Or are they really trying their best to be dictators who give the people what they want, but are just so incompetent that they can't even accidentally make the right decisions?
