They talking about Wharton or Iowa?
Florida's new coaching staff has yet to make a big splash. The Gators have 11 prospects pledged to their 2016 class, and just one of them is rated higher than three stars. Four-star defensive back Chauncey Gardner, who has committed, de-committed and re-committed, is the prize of the UF haul thus far. The relative lack of star power, even at this early juncture, is a bit surprising for the state of Florida's only SEC program. Conference affiliation alone should be able to attract a share of decorated prospects.
It's not time to panic yet by any stretch, but Gator fans have to be wondering about the reltively slow start.
Tennessee hasn't made a splash in Florida when it comes to verbal commitments, but there's clearly a new emphasis being placed on recruiting in the state. The Volunteers lead the recruitment of four-star wide receiver Freddie Pinder and are also the favorite of three-star wide receiver Johnny Huntley. Kemore Gamble, a Rivals250 prospect in the class of 2017, is also high on Tennessee. Miami commit Amir Rasul, a speedy tailback from Coral Gables (Fla.) High School, plans to tour Tennessee this summer. Florida-based prospects are mentioning the Vols more than ever, and it seems like a near certainty that it will pay off with a few commitments. Tennessee is not a traditional player in the Sunshine State, but that may be changing.
2. Joshua Dobbs, Jr., Tennessee
Dobbs took a major step forward as a sophomore, completing 63.3 percent of his passes for 1,206 yards in six games, while also rushing for 469 yards and another eight scores. When combined with his 4-1 record as Tennessees starting quarterback last year, winning the TaxSlayer Bowl MVP Award in the process, the former No. 10 pro-style quarterback in the 247Sports Composite is due for a big junior year.
