Don't know the poster on VQ, but I'd be willing to bet Jumper will not be the starting MLB. Nothing against Jumper, but I have a hard time believing there isn't someone more talented on the roster that may just understand the defense slightly worse.

Agree

Jumper this season:

.

Kirkland be like, don't plan on being the starter long.

I'm very excited to hear the news about Jumper, if he is getting this recognition now, I believe he is earning it instead of Bynum or Kirkland being bad. This kid has good size and is a gamer, plus his personality and attitude are a perfect fit for Butch's program. Whether or not he holds on to the top spot, I'm pumped that he seems to be raising the bar on the practice field.

I'll take someone that makes a tackle on 2nd down and gets the defense set on 3rd down over someone who gets the TFL on 2nd then leaves a part of the field unattended to on 3rd down.

I'll take the more talented, more athletic player who is going to make big plays throughout the game.

Even if it means getting a lot of 3rd and longs converted on us because someone was out of place? Don't you remember what a confused defense looks like? It was only 3 years ago

Just heard from Donnie and the four-star WR has reconsidered. He will not be announcing this week and will take more visits after he returns from the Opening. Expect Tennessee to be one of those visits.

Jakob Johnson was more athletic than AJ...who played smarter and made more big plays? ON THE FIELD.

So, what if your less athletic, less talented kid gets beat by a more athletic TE over the middle on a key third down?

This is kind of silly, and I don't mean to down play the importance of having a guy on the field that can get the defense aligned. It is critical. But, maybe it's just me, I'll take the more athletic, more talented guy even if his understanding of the defense is slightly worse. I'm not saying put a kid out there who is clueless, obviously.

How athletic/talented does a player need to be to excel? And does being a walk-on preclude you from having athleticism? Unless you have some insider scouting report on Jumper, I feel you're arguing facts not in evidence.

Wow......This thread has been full on stupid today.

Let me see if I have all of this straight. First, the FSU QB was tricked into hitting the girl, she should be punished. Secondly, Butch and staff need to be fired, because they have no clue what they are doing anymore.

Is that right? Please say it's right so I don't have to read through all of this garbage again.

All I'm saying, man, is that we've been TORCHED when we are caught out of place. If the coaches really think we should use jumper, then they probably see something we don't. This isn't NCAA 14 where every walk on has a 57 overall rating. This isn't a case of Butch trying to give Jumper more love, this isn't a case of the other candidates being 100% garbage, this is a case where a young man works his ass off to learn the position as best as he can and possibly gain a scholarship. It's also possible (probable) that this is a case of Butch giving the scholarship MLBs something to chew on so they'll be motivated to work harder. Regardless, isn't it better to hear that there is more competition motivating these guys to work harder? It feels good to not be in the Dooley days where a guy is promised a starting spot upon signing and we just have to deal with it

I, for one, have never seen more than a few seconds of Jumper at practice. I'm hoping the coaches have seen a bit more than that and trust they have a better assessment than all of us.
