I'm posting this from Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. My beautiful four day old baby girl is currently intubated and has been diagnosed with a congenital heart defect and is going to require heart surgery.

All I ask for is prayers. We're getting reports that are as good as we can hope for at this point but surgery is forthcoming.

This is out of nowhere really, but I'm just really happy and excited for Kendal Vickers. Albeit, he hasn't recorded a single stat and whether he ever does, he's the kind of kid Id like to see become successful.

He came in at 6'3" 230 lbs. as a DE. He's put on 50+ pounds to help not only himself, but his team by becoming a interior DL. A lot of kids would resist this including myself at 19-20 years old. It sounds like this kid has sacrificed for team needs over personal needs.

It's just encouraging to see a kid that overcomes a demotion, so to speak. Let's be honest, because if the coaches saw him helping at DE he would've never gotten this big. I hope Kendal has an outstanding year!

Vickers' development is HUGE for the defense this season.

Tuttle and McKenzie will play a lot this year, but having Vickers as a "buffer" to lessen the dropoff from O'Brien/Williams to the two freshmen (as they get more comfortable) is really important.

Agree, depth and role play on the defense is huge. I see Vickers evolving into a 3rd and med/long role, maybe more?!

How is Saulsberry coming along. Last I heard was that his injures could take him away from football. I keep hearing his name brought up when ppl discuss DL rotation. When is he due back

Saulsberry has indicated he will play this fall and intends to give it a go, but the way his knees are it is always subject to change. Perhaps he will stay healthy enough to contribute as a solid back-up.

It is absolutely amazing to me the things that they can do now for the congenital heart defects. Keep praying, we will for you too!

I'd guess he'll play a couple plays per game. More than anything, I've read that Trevarris is an incredible leader. It'll be good to have him, I just hope he can stay healthy- for his sake.

Ashlee has improved quite a bit since this morning.

They're hoping she continues to improve enough to extubate this evening or this morning and allow her time to recuperate enough for surgery, either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Also wanted to say that we went through a similar situation with my little girl when she was born, She is now 6 and amazingly healthy and adorable! You will be amazed when you look back on this on how much strength you and your wife will gather from these prayers. The clarity of purpose in these moments will help push you through. God Bless!
