On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being "Lol, who dat?" and 10 being "2-10 season incoming", where do y'all put losing VP?

I'm going with a 4. I don't think it's bad enough to lose us any games by itself but it makes the health of the WR corps that much more important. An injury there and an injury to a RB could turn a 9-3/8-4 season to a 6-6 season.

4 sounds about right. He's important, and he's a really special player. But, if there is any position in which we have enough depth to sustain a loss, it's WR.

3.

Offense loses a wrinkle or two but we're as close to the "reloading" phase of upper echelon teams as we've been in 15 years. We're still building but the foundation is solid and floors 2, 3, and 4 are nearly cured.

3. At best, Von would've been our third best WR this year. At worst, possibly 5th.

It probably hurts us most from a depth perspective. A couple of mid season injuries and we are going to be pretty thin.

Regarding talent and athleticism, there isn't anything Pearson can do that Josh Smith can't. Jason Croom was coming on extremely strong towards the end of last season and Josh Malone has looked like a much more focused player this spring. Malone is more talented than any wideout on the roster not named North imo. His problems have always been focus and effort. Jonathan Johnson will be a quality receiver and Preston Williams is obviously the big wild card.

Tldr version - We will be fine as long as the WR's aren't hit with a rash of freak injuries again like last year.

Oh and somewhere in Berkeley, Vic Wharton must feel like he jumped the gun with his transfer. He would've had a great opportunity to win some PT this year with all the injuries at his position this spring.

Unless he got some news from coaches that indicated that a transfer would be his best option...I still don't understand Wharton--or Ryan Jenkins for that matter.

Eh, I get viewing things glass half full, I'm taking the same approach. We will be fine, barring injury.

But Josh Smith is no where near as silky as Pearson was out on the edge.

Smith is the fastest WR on the team. Maybe not quite the jitterbug that Pearson is but I don't see some big drop off between the two. Smith is deceptively quick, a gym rat, has a motor that never stops. A real coach on the field type.

Meanwhile in Gator land. Inside the Gator site reports and tweets out that North Carolina 4* RB Robert Washington committed to Florida prematurely as shortly afterwards he dons the Syracuse Hat!

My goodness that is embarrassing.

Von has extraordinary talent and potential BUT plenty of times he was a liability with routes and we never got to really see him healthy. We're going to miss what he could've been this year and I do think he'd have been a lot better this year. However, I honestly think that if Smith stays healthy we won't miss Von much at all (maybe on a few sweeps). What hurt last year was losing both of them and then Von never really being full strength when he did come back.

I think it's valid to say he's got injury concerns though. He hasn't had a healthy season yet. Hopefully it's been bad luck and won't be a trend.

Plus I really think that Josh Malone is going to have a break out year this year.

My Gator Bro in law just text me that Corch Mac didn't want him because he has too many stars. 😆

I'm going to say a 5. I think Pearson was going to be heavily featured in our offense, but I think we have the athletes and players in position that can make this loss a little less. Next guy up mentality. I am still hoping for the best case scenario where von comes back though honestly

I am a positive guy, too, but VP is talented, and we would miss his athleticism. If VP was healthy all last year and had a Bray-type QB, I think he could have left and been drafted.

I am positive on Smith, but he struggled his freshman year and hurt most of his sophomore year. He hasn't proven yet that he can be a consistent WR in college. VP is probably our best open field runner after catching the football, and he and Dobbs had developed a nice connection.

I don't see how anyone can spin it as any type of positive going forward.
