Tennessee is expected to play today without a trio of key offensive contributors.
Jashon Robertson, Brett Kendrick and Preston Williams have injuries that will prevent them from being on the field when the Vols battle No. 8 Alabama.
Kendrick has been battling an elbow injury and more recently a knee issue. There's a belief Kendrick will need surgery for one or both issues.
Robertson has battled ankle and knee injuries as well. He isn't expected out long-term at this point, but Robertson got extensive treatment this week but still couldn't go.
Williams has been hampered by knee and ankle injuries including a setback this week in practice.
Also hearing that there's a good chance Peyton Manning will be on the Vols' sideline this afternoon
Seriously.
My wuestion is why?
Poor strength and conditioning?
Just bad luck?
You want the truth? My answer will be unpopular to many on here.
Overtraining and intensity. The intensity of the S&C combined with the intensity of Butch's practices overtaxes the young bodies of 18-22 year old kids. I am all for the intensity of S&C in the off season. But combining it with the in-season and add in the high volume of reps in practice - too much. Do black stripes and their removal come to mind?
As a result it will take 4-5 highly talented recruiting classes to get where they want to go because of the attrition from injuries and program departures built into the system. It is what it is.
Looks like we will start 2 true FR in Tuscaloosa. I know they looked good against UGA, but that's usually a recipe for disaster on the road in the SEC, especially first start in Tuscaloosa.
