I don't sound crazy. Talking this team up like they are the patriots is crazy.
1. Overall - we simply don't have the talent to win a national championship yet.
2. You don't rebuild from FCS level talent to National Championship talent in 3.5 years.
3. We don't have the horses at DT.
4. Offensive line isn't good enough overall, especially at tackle.
5. Secondary outside of Sutton isn't good enough to be considered national championship caliber.
When you are talking about being a national champion, you don't have this many question marks. We play in the SEC. We don't get to show up twice a year and go 11-1 or 12-0 like the other conferences.
This team winning the east and going 10-2 will be great.
You gave me props and yours are due as well.
Good post.
The talent at majority of the positions is there. We are missing some key depth and backup talent that has been exposed from injuries (DT, OL, LB, CB). Those were everyone's question marks and you now see why.
I think last years team wasn't taken seriously enough. We showed up and balled out as underdogs and got ourselves some really close games that we should have won.Now this year people know what we have and respected us. They gamed up for us. We were the favorites. So we got the best game out of everyone.
And we didn't execute in the first half as well as we could've. That led to starters being in games longer and injuries.
Freaky fluke injuries. But they added up.
Now, we're sitting 5-2 with a clear shot at 10-2. SECe champs. Hope to pull a close game in SECCG. Get to a NY6 bowl or MAYBE win the SECCG and enough chaos ensues elsewhere that gets us in the playoffs.
VERY UNLIKELY. But possible.
Enjoy the ride ladies and gentlemen. We only get this for so long.
Butch needs to make some coaching adjustments.
Roster needs a bit more help.
We're getting there.
How quickly we forget being 5-7 for 3 years straight.
