This isn't what's going on at all. People are trying to put it into context of the season as a whole. By comparing it to other disappointing losses, it helps place that context. No one has excused South Carolina, but it contrasts the Florida, Virginia Tech, and Georgia wins.

That's why Saban and his history get brought up all the time. It's context.

As for South Carolina being a "respectable loss" or not, it was simply me asking Jave if he thought a South Carolina that won out would make it respectable. I made no comment on the matter in that post. In another post, I said clearly it was a bad loss.

The problem is, it's a poorly thought out attempt to introduce context.

If South Carolina is our first loss and we are trying to put that into context of still making the playoffs, it's applicable.

Bringing up single losses for teams that lost the one game en route to the national championship does not apply to a team that's season, like it or not, is on the brink of completely failing expectations.

it almost appeared that dobbs was paid off to lose. very treon esque performance.

That's just part of the deal with this dude. Dobbs has the ability to light up very good defenses. He also has the ability to look awful against a pedestrian defense.

We knew what we had in Dobbs coming into this season. We hoped that he'd gain some consistency as a passer and decision-maker, but he hasn't. It is what it is.

I thought that once the UCSe player touched it and we recovered in the endzone it was a TD. I really thought it should have been a TD for us but I havnt seen anything suggesting I was correct.

The ruling was the ball crosses the line before the SC player kicked it

So Lambert and an unknown Chubb were better. Screw that. 10-2 wasn't an "unreasonable expectation."

Never said anything about it being unreasonable. I actually predicted 10-2 before the season, hoping that our two losses were against the West. It was going as planned. I am just saying that some of the data used preseason to predict records is based on the roster as constructed.

Edit: It also takes into account Sutton, JRM, and Kirkland playing as well.

10-2 wasn't ''unreasonable''. But, being reasonable is not the same thing as being most likely.

What is unreasonable is those who believed that 10-2 was most likely.

Cool. I'm sure you have lots of data that backs up your analysis. I'd love to see it.

Here is some data for you. If we had less injuries, especially at key leadership positions, 10-2 was most likely. :)

Oh State/VT ring a bell?

OSU lost to VT. Just one of many examples of your utter wrongness.

Did they lose two other games as well? I think my post was not taken into context. You can't lose games that you shouldn't after losing two games that you are likely to lose. Hope this explains my point better. You can't expect to do that and be national championship contender, period. Or even an SEC championship contender, unless you back your way in.
