1)The 3 of them didn't play together often as we still had Hefney and D Willinghham

2) We suffered 3 road blowouts and the only reason we went to Atlanta was because somehow Kentuckys D was worse than ours.........No thank you.

Yet we almost beat the eventual National Champions in LSU with those 3 freshman in the SEC championship.

I'm not saying I want them starting. Im just making a case that they could if they had to.

But Martin, Kelly, Berry, Foreman, and Gualden have the secondary on lock. Ofcourse Sutton leading the way.

What 3 freshman? Rogan didn't start a game. Not one. And UT Sports lists his most extensive playing time as being Against Ark State. If you want to list impressive performances by Freshman DBs then talk about Hefney and Fellows in 04. Those kids held their own. Of course EB was legendary in 07 as a freshman.

What freshman will be the sleeper in this class on offense and defense.

Offense Williams or Brooks if he stays healthy

Defense Blakely I think after a RS he will be a factor going forward.

Offense: Marcus Tatum will be a stud here if he is willing to wait his turn.

Honorable mention: Latrell Williams, Brandon Johnson

Defense: Baylen Buchanan

Honorable mention: Blakely and Bitulli

Shocked we haven't had this conversation yet...

Media loves Dobbs, and the Heisman winner usually comes from a top 10 team. Based on our projected big year, if he stays injury free, and the WR production improves, what do you think?

Watson is probably the front runner, but it's a long season

I think it's very very unlikely unless he really gets more consistent throwing downfield

If he gets his passing stats up I could see it. He is the type of story that people would love to vote for. He's someone the past Heisman winners would want representing the award. However, I think with Hurd and Kamara in the same backfield his numbers won't be enough

This is what I think you can expect out of Josh Dobbs next season, and the reasons why.

1. Rushing yards and attempts will decrease: Protection will be better, meaning less running for his life. His best runs were not called runs, but broken plays. If Hurd and Kamara are healthy, they will get the bulk of the carries. Last season he rushed for 671. I expect him to land around 400.

2. Passing yards will increase:
He averaged 176 per game last year. This year, he averages 250. Line protection will be better. Related to the last point, those broken plays that ended up in runs become passes this year. The law of averages easily drives his passing numbers up (6.66 YPA 2015). This doesn't even account for increased WR production, which absolutely has to be inevitable, right? Stoops defense will increase offensive plays, which should also mean more snaps in the air. Strength of schedule is also easier. Like I said... my man gets 250 per game.

If Dobbs can average just 200, I think we will be doing alright.

Martin and Sutton are going to condense the field so much.

From a pure talent standpoint, ive not ever seen a Tennessee Vol defense with this much talent.

Anf ive given it a lot of thought

You ain't wrong. I wouldn't be surprised to see Sutton and Martin be the first 2 corners picked in the 2017 draft. Their talent is filthy.

Or maybe the o-line gets better at pass protection and his receivers get better separation?

Its not like we've had great pass protection and receivers running wide open that Dobbs keeps missing.

Once he has a huge season this year, people like you will act like he vastly improved and your criticisms were valid when the reality is its the rest of the team improving and Josh always had it in him but never got a proper chance.

Check my name. I've been saying this happens for over a year.

The media loves Josh. We'll be 12-0 going into the SEC championship game against Bama this December. We win, Josh has a game for the ages, and UT gets its first heisman in program history.

Dobbs has absolutely missed wide open receivers regularly throughout his time at UT.

He actually ran for over 800 yards last year. Sack yardage took it down to 671. With better pass protection, Josh could run for the same amount of yards even if he has less rushing attempts.

I think Dobbs averages 235 yards passing, 50 yards rushing, and 3 combined TDs per game next year.

In 13 games (12 regular season games plus the SEC championship) that comes out to:

3,055 passing yards
650 rushing yards
39 TDs (30 passing/9 rushing)

Those numbers should be good enough to win the heisman when you consider we're in the SEC, we would have beaten the defending champs potentially two times, and Josh is a media darling given his background.

Now please name a QB that has NEVER missed an open receiver?

My point isn't that Josh is the perfect passer every down. I simply don't buy into the lie being perpetuated on this site that if Josh could improve the passing game would magically be perfect.

Josh needs to become more consistent. But I've seen him throw many accurate passes that have been dropped (see Josh Malone nearly every game). I've seen the o-line give him almost no time to throw (see every game). I've also seen a lack of separation by our WRs (see Von Pearson's 4.8 40).

Josh is easily the best player on our team. You guys should show some more gratitude that we have a player of his caliber rather than blaming him all the time.

I'm pretty much on board with your stat projections

The other starter was Willingham I thought. Maybe I'm wrong but I remember Berry and Vinson as the two starters that were freshmen.
