I wish our media was more sheepy. Seems like Bama and Georgia have lapdog media members while we have John Adams and that crazy liberal from the Tennessean. Not to mention our resident goon Wes Rucker. I like Patrick Brown but even he has to go out of his way to tell you that he "isn't a fan of the team he covers" as if it is impossible to be objective about a team otherwise.

Hubbs and Volquest provide the best recruiting coverage but also cover UT football in general the best.

Slamming the program every chance you get isn't objective reporting. It is click bait and headline grabbing bull crap.

Sorry for the mini rant. Can't stand the majority of Knoxville sports media.

Agree completely

Agreed with nearly all you say here but the point I was really making is the VQ/247/scout/kNS and others that cover the team everyday have their hands tied with all these regulations. We need to get used to getting the serious spin with very little real info about the on field stuff for sure

Well if our media wasn't filled with headline grabbing click bait journalists then it may not be that way.

If you want news on UT that is fair and accurate then just pay the $100 a year and get volquest. Skip the other crap.

Butch can give me the spin and the canned sound bites if he wants. I don't care. Just win baby.

I think Vq is as controlled by cbj as much as anyone. I think they are the worst with reporting what they know and what they are told

I think they cover the Vols better than anyone. Just because they treat the program with respect and don't look for opportunities to slam the Vols and drag them thru the mud doesn't mean they are puppets. I think the "play nice" with CBJ but I don't think that has hurt their journalistic integrity.

I don't want media telling me about Butch and Mack Crowder getting into it. Whether it was true or false I really don't care. That kinda stuff is team stuff and is handled internally and that's the way it should be.

Agreed I don't expect them to report on those type situations at all. I would like to see better less spin coverage of injuries and such. The pig and north situations last year was a sham

Bama coming to Nashville

Yikes... same day as ours in Nashville.

Who gives a crap about why they are out? I want Butch to control the spin on that. Helps the perception of our program. Saban controls those bammer media members. I want Butch to have the same control.

I would have already banned Seth Stokes from everything if I was SID for the Vols.

I hear you and agree on Pig but the north bs was ridiculous.

What are you complaining about exactly? Why does this even matter to you or anyone?

You said pay 100$ to get good coverage

I would think an accurate injury report is something worth paying for

Surely you know the injuries are a big conversation piece around here during game weeks concerning who is going to play and who isn't

This isn't a criticism of Vq just one of the regulations put on all those that cover by cbj. It's becoming the norm in athletics and the media which was the point

The media has to pick their battles. Sure, Butch has some pretty strict rules concerning what media is allowed to report on from practice, but under Dooley the media was seeing a lot less of practice to begin with.

FWIW I think there are plenty of sports media in Knoxville who do a good job in their reporting. Dustin Dopirak is professional and brings reliable information. Wes Rucker is admittedly a total douchebag, but when it comes to actually giving write ups and practice reports he does a decent enough job. Jimmy Hyams never really breaks any headlines, but he's a cautious reporter who calls things pretty fairly when it comes to the university.

The VQ guys have a great relationship with the athletic department and coaches (to the extent that some have called them little more than mouthpieces for the AD), but that usually means that the info they bring is solid.

I honestly don't think the Knoxville sports media is quite as terrible as many have made it out to be. And I don't see any problem with the coaches prohibiting media from reporting on any specifics concerning injuries or personnel they see during practice.

That's kind of ignorant. You don't think Alabama, Florida, and Georgia coaching staffs pay $10 a month for a VQ account. Might as well add the playbook for the subscription.

Most of the criticism is based off of KNS, I'd assume

Information on the formations and personnel groupings coaches practice leading up to each game would be worth paying for too. But that doesn't mean the coaches have to or should let that he reported on. I feel the same way with injuries. The best thing to do is just to assume that everything you hear about injuries is inaccurate unless Butch is saying he's out for the year.

Yeah, it would be nice to know, but the coaches don't want opponents to have good or reliable information on our injuries. In the age of the Internet, I don't really blame them.

Who cares about how North's injury was reported? Why is that a sticking point for you? The guy was faking injury every week. He is lucky Butch didn't dismiss him. That kinda stuff we are better off not knowing about until afterwards if ever.

I don't even wanna know that stuff. Not sure how anyone can accurately report an injury that is being faked anyway.

I 100% agree BUT I would just assume there be zero reporting on injuries than bold faced lies.

Not having an injury report at all is fine by me
