"After talking to several people at today's camp I think the overwhelming MVP would Obina Eze. A number of people raved about his performance today.
At the skill spots, Javonta Payton out of Hillsboro turned a lot of heads. He will be back on Tennessee's campus tomorrow to camp again. Was told he looked really good.
Theo Jackson really impressed. He's got a ton of length and that's something coaches really like about him.
Also, Latrell Bumphus camped today and looked good. He camped as a tight end and on Wednesday his plan is to head to Jackson to camp as a defensive lineman. I think that, at the very least is a good sign for the Vols.
From the class of 2018, Cam Johnson looked great in one-on-ones from what I'm told.
From a recruiting perspective, here's the news:
Maliek Gray said the Vols currently lead, but followed that up with, "It changes every day." Florida State, Alabama and Southern Cal are the main competitors there. He plans to be back on campus for the Orange Carpet Day. It's going to be a while before he does anything, but the Vols continue to impress him.
With Eze, his main reason for visiting the camp today was to be taught under coach Mahoney. He said he really liked the camp and liked how Mahoney coached. He said he really likes Tennessee and has for the past year. He's not saying he has any favorites or anything like that, but Tennessee is definitely in the mix there.
Theo Jackson has a top group of Tennessee, LSU and Vanderbilt and I think it's safe to say the Vols are sticking out there.
Tee Higgins talked about Tennessee being the top overall school right now and that while Clemson is close, it's about all of his relationships at Tennessee and the fact that it's close to home and his friends and family can come see him. He was in Memphis this weekend with his family and is in Nashville working on some ACT prep so he decided to make the drive to the camp.
Some other notables that were at camp today:
2018
Jaylon King
Gavin Schoenwald
D'andre Litaker
2019
Kendrell Scurry
Wesley Walker
Adonis Otey
Jashon Watkins
Overall, I think this was a very successful camp for the Vols."
