I think Jarrett is the single-best qb recruit Butch Jones has had, anywhere, and I think he's the best true fit for his system. Jarrett is very advanced and it absolutely is a battle for No. 2. This is a big week for both he and Quinten Dormady, who throws a brilliant ball but does not have his overall athleticism.

Would hate not to get Gibbs, but I like Theo Jackson better as a DB. His development as a LB wouldn't be immediate, so this would be a recruiting disappointment...nothing more nothing less. We're at the point where we have talent stacked and layered, so if we redshirt some developing talent and they contribute, it becomes part of a systemic process. We can't rely on these type of classes year in and year out, but you can add to the core.

Question: Has the presence of Josh Dobbs hurt our QB and/or WR recruiting the past two years? I saw the Jack Sears commitment to Duke and it seems like another head-scratching case of QBs and WRs steering clear of UT. I think a case could be made that 4 years of Dobbs has been a blessing and a curse.

On one hand, he's one of the top 3-5 QBs in the SEC and a great leader. He's shifty and moves our offense efficiently with screens and short runs. On the other hand, he'll give us a another year of up and down passing with few chances to stretch the field and (in turn) mediocre receiving numbers from our high profile, impact receivers. Recruiters from other schools surely use this against us as an indictment of our offensive system.

Opinions?

Disclaimer: I love Dobbs. He's a great kid who does everything the right way. We needed that kind of stability and character in our program and he's delivered. A VFL in my book.

Other schools are negative recruiting CBJ. They're telling recruits that CBJ can't win close games and doesn't develop players for success. Clemson, especially, is making it very personal, directly slamming CBJ and UT to recruits and telling them that coming to UT is a career killer for elite players. That WRU thing last year really pissed Clemson off, and they're using it against us bigtime.

It is a dilemma. You summed his era up perfectly..at least to this point and how it is affecting recruiting playmakers...a blessing and a curse. Same disclaimer+extra...I love Dobbs, and I believe Azz is a bigger problem than JD as regards to recruiting playmakers this year.

It's on Malone and Williams to change the narrative about receivers. If they are as talented as they were rated, there should be no excuse and nothing for Clemson or anybody else to say about receivers in our offense. I believe they will thrive this year because they both appear much better this season
