Truth be told, I think with a competent OC, which we don't currently have and I'm not confident we will have, our offense should be just fine next year. A lot of weapons on that side of the ball.

Our defense loses almost every productive player from this year, and it was already really, really bad under this coaching staff. That is a pretty big worry.

bold prediction:

We finish really strong on the trail (top 10), whip somebody's ass in the bowl game and roll into spring with renewed momentum and a fierce QB competition.

If butch can flip Stevens and Higgins then sign one corner that can come in and play right away move Byrd to the other corner spot and start 2 of warrior/Stevens/Abernathy/griffin I would feel a lot better about the defense next year.

Points, yes. Turnovers will prevent those. They moved the ball pretty consistently until they coughed it up or had an inopportune penalty, though.

Forcing Turnovers is playing good defense. IMO

Also Kirkland was flat out balling in that game before his injury. Had started to take over for us.

I'm in disbelief that I read the loss to vandy wasn't that bad of a loss. And that "we'll get to see how Butch can really coach next year"

These last 4 years of terrible in game decisions & personnel management just fly out the window?

So Texas A&M played good defense against us?

Generally I agree. But there are boneheaded turnovers and forced turnovers. VT had both.

We beat both FL and jawja this year, which makes up for 8-4 record to an extent for me. Vandy really isn't that bad this year, and if we had blown them out I think we would see less fire under Butch. We need Butch under serious pressure to find out how he can really do. Next year we will find out if Butch is the guy for us, since winning the east is definitely doable next year. We'll have a veteran team, and even though we'll have a new QB (and very talented) that historically hasn't been an issue for championship teams. This year was a disappointment no doubt, but it was enthralling until our players started falling out, and if we make some position coach changes and instill a more disciplined mindset I think our floor next year is 8-4. Schedule isn't too bad and we get the bye at a pretty good time.

translates into "vandy isn't that bad of a loss this year"
