I think the offense is too conservative at times but I don't think it's plausible to demand a better offense - statistically anyway.

It's the inconsistency, it's the conservative approach. Our numbers are good, burn debord didn't open up the offense until we were down. Did the same thing last year. It's not that he can't do it, it's that there is refusal to do so at times. He also gets predictable.

Yea, that's ridiculous!! Didn't Dobbs miss out on an academic athlete award too. I'm guessing there's not ONE d1 starting athlete, let alone starting sec qb, that have a harder curriculum than he does??

Dobbs not getting that academic award was horrible. Not to mention he is a community leader.

Why have you been defending the article from yday so much??? It seems to me you are very close to Haney, and that's your connection to the program. Or maybe you are one of the unnamed sources.

My connection to the program is I worked in the athletic dept.

A lot of people I know there and if a certain AD gets in I will know even more. ;)

But yes, I also know Haney personally.

I was absolutely not a source.

Deerpark in Basilio thread was saying he sees new AD in place 5-7 days after new chancellor on the 15th. You hearing the same?

He also said during last coaching search members of AD intentionally fed Basilio wrong information because they knew he would report it. Pretty funny if true.

to a certain degree, especially in the SEC. I agree that DeBord was way too conservative to start games in the first third of the season, but after we started featuring Kamara and Kelly the Vols were pretty dynamic. We're not going to be as good next year, that seems a pretty safe bet, as our QB will be inexperienced and Kamara will be gone. He is a special talent.

Appreciate it. Birthday is the 18th the day of the game. My wife is terrible at surprises 😅. She couldn't wait to give me the tickets. Gonzaga ranked 8th. Hopefully the Vols can pull off the upset.
We're getting better each game and are really working well together. I think we can upset one of our big opponents this year. Sounds like a good birthday to me!

I think the too conservative narrative is overblown. Seemed true the first three games, but after that, with the exception of Bama, it was all about players not executing. UF and GA in particular. Drops, turnovers, penalties. It was all stupid stuff in the players control.

In the FWIW JMO column. I believe Butch told Debord to slow the offense down (time between plays) to protect the D this season. Per ESPN's Stats the year to year shows significantly less offensive plays per game this season than the previous season, yet, they were up in yards per game along with a 1 point per game higher score on O. All that despite many more turnovers and penalties. That can explain some of the dissatisfaction with Debord at times. It was 422 yards per game on O in 2015 and 437 this season.

Compare that to 2012 and Chaney. Same scoring offense as this season at 36 points per game with 70 more offensive plays. That was with a future NFL O-line, but worse overall skill players. They had 476 yards per game trying to catch up all the time.

One team went 8-4. The other went 5-7. We know the D was the real reason. So the only question in my mind is did using much more clock on O between plays actually help or hurt the win column? The D still gave up an incredible amount of points and yardage in November against the bottom feeders. It may just be a statistical anomaly as a result of the timing of TO's and penalties. But it makes coaching sense to do that when you are eat up with defensive injuries.

MTSU is beating the crap out of Vandy in basketball. Up 24 with 2:30 to go. They have already hammered Ole Miss this year.
