They recruited the hell out of Derrick Brown and had Cristmas-Giles committed. That is really hot a fair criticism. DB went down to the wire. I think he made them think they had him. A lot of people did.

Derrick Brown dude?

I hear y'all. But you have to have back up plans. Derrick Brown was never a sure thing. Christmas-Giles decommited in mid-December so they had time to find a replacement. There were at least 3 instate 3* DT's last year that ended up going to GT, WKU and MTSU, respectively. Surely we could have gotten one of them late for added depth.

I understand schools that are nervous to hire him. He's a walking sanction and has very questionable character off the field. Only reason it works at Bama is because I think Saban locks him in a room until game time

Kiffin in the office seeing the news about Applewhite:

Shy should have been redshirted this year. He was not ready at all

Looked pretty dang good to me before injury. You can't sit a guy out in fear that he might have an injury not related to previous one. Should we redshirt entire team coming off injury?

Questionable on the field too. I was listening to sports talk in Nashville yesterday and they were talking about Kiffin. A caller on the show said him and his son were at field level for warmups for the Bama-UT game and Kiffin was on the field acting like a clown. As a joke he threw a ball at one of the equipment managers for Bama and hit him square in the side of the head. The manager was furious and Kiffin laughed it off and didn't even apologize. The guy just can't be serious enough, long enough to be a competent HC in my opinion.

Dennis Dodd said the other day that USF is the job Kiffin wants, not Houston.

Then his agent sucks, because he looks like a rejected 2nd choice now instead of a guy with lots of choices. I doubt he wanted usf over Houston.

I highly doubt with the way this season went and ending on such a poor note at Vandy, along with the Butch leaving speculation, he is able to pull guys at this point... Everyone knew once we got whipped by Vandy, our recruiting would stall and that is exactly what is happening. Unless Butch goes ahead and starts naming new staff that are upgrades to get kids excited, we are in for a slow drop for the next month or so...

Last couple days made me want to:

Some talk that he they couldn't agree on contract terms to avoid a 1-2 yr stepping stone positions. Houston looking for a long term guy

Haney a UT Grad writes irresponsible hit piece on his alma mater using a very negative quote from an unnamed source as its title.

Vandy loving, UT hatin Barton Simmons writes article following day titled "Source:Support remains strong for Butch Jones"

Coupla things and these are by no means universal but they do apply to a noticeable percentage of people, especially in journalism....

1. No one hates UT the way alums, especially alums that haven't had enough time or distance to begin missing it, hate UT.

2. Even when there's a lot of love there Alums can often feel compelled to prove they aren't biased towards their Alma Mater, particularly when it comes to sports. That often leads to them swinging too far in the other direction to 'prove' they're not biased.

Which leads into this....

3. Alums of rival teams can often feel compelled to prove they aren't biased against a team and will go out of their way to be fair.

It's weird but in things like reporting these factors often come into play. In sport's journalism, especially, there's nothing worse than being considered a homer and a lot of these guys will do anything, including stupid, unfounded things, to avoid that label by their peers.

I'm not even sure Applewhite will stay long if he proves to be a really good coach. If Houston wants to be a long term good program with a top notch coach they need to get into a major conference. If they would have gotten into the BIG 12 they may have had a shot to keep Herman.

Too bad the Big 12 keeps shooting themselves in the butt and making themselves look ridiculous every single year with their "We are thinking about expanding..." talk and then ultimately saying in the end "We weren't actually thinking about it..."

No danger.

Yeah they have. They have made so many questionable decisions. Not having a championship game is a dumb decision. The game brings more money to their pockets and the teams pockets, helps with exposure for national rankings and much more. At least they were smart enough to bring that back next year.

Calling yourself the Big 12 with 10 teams is about the most idiotic thing in sports especially now that the MLB all star game no longer decides home field advantage in the World Series.
