"I'm looking forward to [the bowl ban] in a weird kind of way," Ole Miss' coach added Tuesday during the SEC spring meetings. "I have the opportunity to really model for a group of young men how real life can be like when you're faced something you didn't ask for."

Just imagine what the backlash would be from the Knoxville media had this been from Butch Jones.

Welp the FF wants to get rid of the third Saturday in Octobe... again

I got into a big discussion with those folks a couple of weeks ago about this topic. All I said was that it was a competitive disadvantage to play Bama every year. Then a group countered back by saying our losses to Bama the last two years didn't prevent us from winning the East. I can't deny that, but it is still absolutely a competitive disadvantage to play them every year.

FTR, I like us playing Bama, but it still doesn't help us.

I don't disagree with the fact that it is a competitive disadvantage, but I do agree with the other statement more. The Bama losses didn't make us lose the East the last two years. Just control what you can and put together the best team that you can, regardless of who you play.

I would imagine the Chip Kelly "lottery" will play out between A&M and Auburn this season. A&M has the money and recruiting ground, but Auburn has the "win at all costs" mentality. Will be interesting to see where he ends up.

One of the things I have always heard about Kelly is that he has no interest in the South. That he doesn't like it and would never want to live here.

I have heard that multiple times from various people on interviews when his future is discussed. Not sure if it is true or how stuff like that gets started, but it is a pretty common rumor.

The problem is that Bama has been so dominant that we start out 0-1. We have to beat the other west team just to split those games, while UF and UGA have greater odds of splitting their west opponents.

In Butch's four years, he has played 2 of the top 4 west teams every year and 2 of the top 3 in three of the years. UGA has played the last place west team the last two years and actually lost one. I know, I know- just win games. But you still have to face the facts.

I don't think anyone else notices but the cross division rivalries are (or at least were at one point) 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 etc

Yep.

It's not like Florida or Georgia get to play Miss St every year.

Tennessee, Florida, Georgia
Vs
Alabama, LSU, Auburn

About as equitable as they could make it.

Like I said, I'm with you on the fact that it puts us behind the 8-ball playing the best team year in and year out. I get it, I don't disagree on that.

I'm just saying, I used to get fired up before a game when I knew I was about to play the best team in whatever league I was playing. I want players and coaches that won't back down from any fight or game. I want players and coaches that want to play the best. No matter if it's Bama or an OOC team, the old saying still rings true: You have to beat the best to be the best.

I think a huge contract might change his mind. Especially if he had the green light to go out and hire a staff of top recruiters.

Only we have to beat them twice every year to be the best lol

That still does not make it equitable because Alabama is head and shoulders above everyone else every single year.

Don't have to beat them twice. You could lose in the regular season and then beat them in the SECCG and still win a national championship. Still beat the best in the end. Obviously I would love to beat them twice, but you don't have to.

Did vol fans complain this much in the 70s?

Phone operators didn't let it go viral.
