I maybe wrong then, but do you have a problem with HS kids lifting weights over their head? I wonder how many are seriously injured or die during training for other sports? It seems like a lot of piling on to me.

You can't honestly think an overhead lift is the same level of risk as a group of kids running under a log heavy enough to kill them. That's such a dumb drill, especially for a HS football team. It defies logic.

Lifting weights Compared to running with a large log with five kids. It is not even close to the same thing and lifting weights is not just a SEAL training exercise but if little Johnny who has never benched more than 200 is made to do 400 with no spotter, would that not be irresponsible for the coach to have him do it? Heck yeah. We are not saying to not play sports cause it has a risk but this was unecessary and quite stupid drill. Played for over ten years and never saw this at a practice.

Titans OL is horrendously bad

They looked bad at times, yes.

But I refuse to say they actually are bad based off a single thing I saw tonight. Or next week. I'll worry in week 3...maybe. Weeks 1,2, and 4 are owner/stadium/TV driven cash grabs that are boredline useless to starters, imo.

Navy seal log lift exercises aren't a dangerous training exercise. It's been done thousands of times without an issue. Sometimes things happen that shouldn't. This is one of those cases.

I'm not sure any of us have the information to say whether the exercise was being conducted in a safe manner or not.

No use speculating one way or the other.

Agreed on that but it isn't speculating to say the exercise has been thousands of times without injury ocuring to any of the participants in team building activities all over this country. Many on this board have posted as if this was some kind of idiotic taboo exercise and the facts are that is false.

I know it's now midweek but I did hear it said it would be the only one. Not sure if 2 were originally scheduled

They practiced in Neyland today.

Thank you. This answered my question. Practice wasn't actually cancelled. They just changed the format, going to a regular practice and moving the scrimmage to a later date. Makes sense to wait until main contributors are available.

True, but that doesn't necessarily mean it was done in a safe manner this time.

LaTroy doing a bit per a Raider report. ☠🍊

Ra Ra LaTroy is part of a team and Vereen isn't Ra Ra Fahr Butch... But in all seriousness it's good to see Vols showing out this preseason

The reports make it pretty clear it was unsafe. One guy drops then the large log fell. That will be unsafe. You like to argue for the sake of it. Plenty of news reports on the incident out there so no speculation just evolving from anyone's mines.

I am sure there is some fault here but just performing the exercise isn't the fault.

There is a much lighter pole with the weights attached hanging low to the ground, on the ends. Designed specifically for preventing injury from the actual weight being placed above the head.
Don't even have to purchase, can be made dirt cheap.

Ya, I don't think there's any way it can be done in a safe manner if boys are running with something heavy enough to kill them over their heads outside in the heat of summer. Standing in place would be a more reasonable risk, or a lighter log, but both together is just bad common sense.

Speculation would be saying "they were probably already exhausted from practice the day before" or some other assumptions that we don't know are true; but the plain facts of the matter are damning enough without any speculation.

It would take more than one person dropping the log for that to happen. Sure if all the people drop the log it's going to fall hard.

No different than 2 spotters not pulling the heavy weights off a kid on a bench in the weight room. It's dangerous if people don't do Their part.

Seems like almost everyone is putting up stats. I guess we will see later today how JRM does. Outrunning Tabor? 😜 Must be an interesting locker room situation.

No, nothing has been cancelled-- the practice schedule already has been shortened this year, so the team needs all the practices they can get. CBJ said they moved the scrimmage to Wednesday, so it will happen in some format.

It wouldn't be surprising if it's a non-traditional scrimmage, though. They started doing "scrimmage work" on Friday, where they had situational scrimmages for a very short period to avoid player fatigue. IMO, they'll continue to do more of those and expand on Wednesday.
