I completely agree. I had 1 parent who never went to college, 1 parent who did 2 years and an older sibling who has a 4 year degree. Im giving my age away a bit here but im supposed to graduate in two weeks ( im not) and thats all I heard growing up was how good college was and what it would lead to. Even with multiple family members who have gone to college, and myself who wasn't given a choice at the time. But overtime ive learned more at my full time job about life, and how to handle people, and money and stress and many other things that college never prepared me for that im just like whats the pointThat is true.
Trade schools were taboo up until the recession hit and then everyone is looking in disbelief at the $35/hr plumber wage.
With me, I was an A/B student throughout k-12, and because no one in my family had gone to college before, I was expected to because that was "the path". Do well in school, go to college, get a good job, and live the American dream.
There was no guidance with me. Family didn't know the pitfalls of college. School counselors treated me like I was smart enough to figure it out (or they were more worried about C/D/D- students, idk)
But it's definitely a potential trap if you're not prepared for it.
It’s the interest rates that foook you. I didn’t have debt but my wife had 50k for one of her masters. We are making in the 180s combined and paying over 1k a month for a dumb ass loan.Advice for the day: When going to college, pick a field of study where you are going to make significantly more money than your student loan payments.
Don’t go get a Masters in gender studies at NYU and then complain that you can’t pay your payments you agreed to
yep. something you can put in to practice. and if you do go to college, you need to be taking advantage of internships or working while in college so you have already networked.....Going to college is very overrated unless you’re getting a real degree. Engineering, etc
Nah most of the jobs were trash. Just more menial, slightly above minimum wage jobs. In NYC too. The people in that community told it to **** off. Shouldn’t that tell you all you need to know?it's a coporate headquarters....would have employed like 5k people iirc.....that's a lot of jobs.........probably pretty good ones too. not just your typical warehouse worker types you have for the FC's they put up.
ain't no skin off my back. would love it if they came to Charlotte. we already have 3 distribution centers here.....not a bad thing.

There’s a reason the European Union still hasn’t blown past the US economically and still relies heavily on the US militarily, despite having more people, etc. It has to do with socialism, taxes and unfunded entitlements weighing down on their economies...
how can it lead to a deeper value if there is no objective reality or morality? If it is all subjective then there is nothing inherently wrong with murdering a man, raping a child , etc. There are 2 miracles that must be considered that we all believe in. The creation of matter, time and space... the beginning..... and the creation of life. One must believe it was caused or uncaused, both miracles. If it was caused then to avoid an infinite regression you must end at a final uncaused source which many believe to be a creator. The origin of information seems to me a very formidable defeater for proponents of the uncaused. They are subjects worth thinking about for sure
Agree unless it’s someone that earns over 5 million. They should be taxed
Well taxes is a whole different conversation...im for a national sales tax and abolish the income tax.
It’s really easy to live comfortably and that money could go to pay for free healthcare and education. Wouldn’t it be nice to not worry about healthcare? I personally think we should join the rest of the developed world in having that comfort
