Do you see that rebuild money as wasteful, not necessary, or do you just wish it went elsewhere? Or are you saying because we have money for that, we should have the money to help the poor? It’s amazing to me a historical building that burned on ND campus got hundreds of millions to rebuild it so quickly.... but yet you don’t see that money coughed up for people in need... I understand it’s different but I don’t believe the heart issue is. It does send a loud message to people that buildings are more valuable than people.
I think that is one of the problems also, that we make this thing way too complicated. We try to be God and decide who is deserving and who isn’t... instead of just giving them food or clothes or whatever and trust that in the end atleast they have clothes and food. Or whatever the need is. I understand that it isn’t extremely simple in how the ground work and the functionality gets worked out but it doesn’t seem like either party really has much problem getting something started or atleast semi organized to make it atleast primal in operation.
However, I do understand your point.
I told my son, you borrowed that $ and promised to pay it back. That was your choice. You gave your word and now you say it’s too hard, your fellow Americans need to pay your debt? The convo was much longer but he seems to understand; and wants to be a man who keeps his word. That doesn’t mean that it’s a good thing though. We live in the richest country on earth and could easily make public education free and forgive debt
I think the amount of money is unnecessary... however a rebuild is necessary. I’m ignorant to what that building contributed to so I don’t know all the details. However, common sense prevails when you give $700 million plus to rebuild a building and you have a lot of other things you could do with that money including helping people... I’m not so up in arms about that circumstance just a circumstance showing the genuine lack of care for people over “things” when you spend 700 million on a building that shows me a lack of respect for people unless that money is contributing to helping people... then it’s different.Do you see that rebuild money as wasteful, not necessary, or do you just wish it went elsewhere? I think a lot of people feel that if they were in the position of power, that the money would be appropriately allocated to those who need it most. To my eyes and research, I see overwhelming evidence that points to the contrary. Which just adds to why I’m against any tax rate increase.
i don’t know much about the building, but no way it costs 700mil to rebuild. Just another example of government waste and goes back to my point of not trusting them with money/taxes.I think the amount of money is unnecessary... however a rebuild is necessary. You don’t see the helpers because they’re not doing it to be seen...but they are everywhere.i don’t know much about the building, but no way it costs 700mil to rebuild. Just another example of government waste and goes back to my point of not trusting them with money/taxes.
We need more individuals to take action. I’m not saying this is you, just speaking generally, but so many people talk about helping people in need, yet their solution is to have someone else do it, most often a bigger stronger government. There are tons of charitable organization always accepting volunteers. I don’t believe people who say they are too busy for such things. It’s about priorities and integrity.
I found out a month ago or so that my mom has been working the church soup kitchen like once or twice a month for the last decade or more. She’s never mentioned it. I’d say we need more people like her, but I don’t believe it’s likely there are many people like her. I’ve questioned many times whether or not she might be an angel. Mom’s the best! Lol
My thoughts are two fold... as an individual you have a responsibility to be a man of your word and do what you said you would do.I told my son, you borrowed that $ and promised to pay it back. I couldn’t agree more with you. The answer is not “someone else” the answer is the man in the mirror. Eventually we will realize that the “blood is on our hands”.i don’t know much about the building, but no way it costs 700mil to rebuild. I agree with your points as well. I believe it is my responsibility to help when and where I can but how, who, when, and where I chose to help is my choice. My thoughts are two fold... as an individual you have a responsibility to be a man of your word and do what you said you would do.
Also, I believe as a person you have a responsibility to help others as well... don’t put your trust in people but you are responsible to be trustworthy.
It’s obviously easy to say do this or do that but we can’t act like a blanket answer will always be correct. Every situation is different and will require a different answer almost every time.
Im not talking about only emotional support. I have giving money to people over and over again, trying to give them a starting point. Tried helping them through showing them how to budget their money. Tried encouraging them to get better paying jobs that have better benefits. Some have taken my advise while most look avoid help and continue down the same road. I feel sorry for the kids truly but I refuse to continue to give money to those who refuse to help themselves. That’s crazy to me. That’s exactly what I am saying whenever I mention “checking off your box because you helped someone” I understand that people learn by going through the process so I don’t disagree there. However, it seems as though you patronize them by saying, “ you can do it you will get there it’s okay” while you go off and go out to eat with your family and a steak dinner while they have nothing to eat. It’s good to teach them but in the learning process it would be extremely cold hearted to just give them advice and not offer a hand up. You wouldn’t do that to your children why would you do that to a hurting family who have children?
I understand you and I think different fundamentally, so this is just going to go back and forth with no end but I hope maybe one day you would reconsider lest you get caught in a situation that you need help and someone says to you “I’m sure you will figure it out”
Appreciate your thoughts...Im not talking about only emotional support. I have giving money to people over and over again, trying to give them a starting point. I have even offered to get people jobs with local businesses to get them started and some have said yes, some no.
One of my parents used to ask me for money constantly, years later i finally said I will no longer give you money and that parent figured it out and now manages there money for the most part. I will buy them stuff as a sort of advancement and then they pay me back. But no longer do i just give them money for them to live off me.
Take the crutch away, they will learn how to walk. Harsh, maybe, but only method i have found effective. Thanks, for your civil conversation.
