Red tide wiped the fishing out in that area. I fished around Englewood a month ago and were catching a few snook, so it’s starting to come back slowly.
It worked for a sec. took forever to load@SweetasSoda Go to giphy, type in fishing bait, it’s the girl biting the fish
I'm from Ft Myers, born & raised. Please dont hold that against me. We had a fish kill & the blue-green algae outbreak within the last few years that has killed anything & everything.... including manatees. Lots of smalls right now. Fishing the flats is nice & all but me personally, offshore is where at. One of my favorite night fishing spots is Blind Pass on captiva.... pull up @ night, drop the green snook light over the side of the bridge & enjoy the show. Ding Darling on sanibel in the early morning for Reds & juvenile tarpon.... great scenery too.Every place in Florida says that. Have for 16 years ive been down there. On our side, it's the freezes that killed Snook.
In indian river in Central Florida, you MIGHT see a big snook occasionally, if you do. Put it back. It's rare.
Conversely, we fished Ft Myers last fall. Couldnt keep Snook out of the boat.
When inshore bite falls off. Might head offshore.
When I hit reply on mobile, I saw the gif.@SweetasSoda Go to giphy, type in fishing bait, it’s the girl biting the fish

Gulf side is not the place to get deep quick. West Palm, ft Lauderdale etc is where you get deep quick. I fish both several times a yeari literally know very little about fishing there. just that it surprised me how few big fish there are.
Before kids, I bought an epoxy wheel and was messing around with saltwater flies. Before time got eaten up i'd sorta come up with with a derivative of a clouser with an epoxy, weighted head. Didnt have much time to mess around, caught a weakfish and a ladyfish before it headed to the tackle box. Anyway, that's a long way to say...i wanted to tie the fly of flies for a shot at off shore Tuna.
Some of the test flies i had looked pretty good and would have worked. lol, had the tackle, biggest issue was getting miles off shore.
Apparently Gulf side is the place for that.
