We won't destroy the planet. At worst, we'll just drive ourselves to extinction. The Earth will continue. Science.

Plus the climate has been changing since time began. Are we speeding it up? Probably, but it'll continue to change no matter what.
Nah. I feel like we need to pay politicians trillions of dollars to try and fix something they can't control

The great thing about having no kids is not worrying about the world they will inherit. All you parents have to feel guilty about the world you're leaving them.
Now I sort of feel better about the future for my son knowing that Weezer Jr won't be in it.

Oil companies and politicians finance solar power and wind because they know they will never replace fossil fuels. They block nuclear power. It is all about money and not the environment.
OIl companies are fighting tooth and nail to remove anything climate related from the infrastructure bill lol also renewables make up 21% of the US energy use, up from 4% just 10 years ago.

Climate ebbs and flows. We have catalyzed.

Gaia Hypothesis. We are the malaise. Interesting read. Kind of out there.

One big volcano pops off somewhere in the world and releases millions of tons of sulphur dioxide into the atmosphere and the idiots will be begging for global warming to come back...in a hurry.

Science and the Bible support that there was once a great worldwide flood. That would suggest it was hot enough the ice caps had melted. The Ice Age tells us the Earth cooled back down. So the climate has always changed. Are we a catalyst speeding up the process? Possibly. But we are not the cause of the process. Could we potentially slow the process? Maybe. But we also continually fight against nature. We've continually over-populated the Earth. And as the Earth responds in an attempt to combat that overpopulation, we find new ways to survive. We, as humans, talk about conservation in regards to everything but ourselves. So if we are speeding up a climate change, the most likely result is our own extinction. We won't destroy the planet, just ourselves.

Imagine if the super-volcano under Yellowstone erupted. That would be an extinction level event.

you should read Gaia hypothesis.

Saving the planet then, on its face is, really self survival. Isnt that paradoxical?

Worked there in '03. Scientists have been studying giant growing gas bubble under Lake Yellowstone for 40+ years.

Scientists say the explosion and ash would be felt in Tennessee. That half Earth wouls be covered in smoke and blot out the Sun.

Which is a perfectly fine perspective to have if you are only thinking of yourself. At age 45, I probably won’t experience the worst effects of what you allude to. But I have a 15 year old and a 9 year old. They matter more to me than my own existence.

I don’t care if you want to own the libs, or think conservatives are nuts - to me it’s not a political thing. Shouldn’t we want to do our best to leave things better off for our kids, and their kids? Aren’t we called to be good stewards of creation?

Addressed.

Gas prices are a direct result of democrat interference..it doesn't matter to you, but it cost me over a hundred dollars a month more for me just to get to work now than in it did in February.

Nobody cares how this idealism screws people like me over. A hundred dollars is nothing to you, but it is a big deal to me.

To be honest, and this isn't a political debate or should be one. But that's just not accurate at all, gas prices dipped during COVID cause no one was driving. They were going to rebound (and inflate a ton) once the restrictions were lifted. And with new demand it's created a bit of a shortage which also drives up pricing even more.

But to say it's only a democrat or republican interference thing is just not true. The market regardless of political power will always be driven by demand in all areas. Low demand = Lower prices to try and kickstart purchasing. High demand = Higher prices to take advantage.

It's happening in a lot of markets that essentially developed product shortages when COVID put things to a halt globally. The biggest market impacted is the tech market.

we are all doomed if that thing blows. The survivors will have it worse than those who vaporize in the explosion.

If you don't see how they have influenced prices with their loudly anti-oil/gas agenda..then nothing I say will change your mind.

Natural market price fluctuation after a global pandemic is going to happen. Gas prices (or oil in general for that matter) have always been a market that lobbyist like to exploit though and this is just another time when that's happening, it absolutely would be happening if republicans were majority in congress as well. Because all political parties are pushed/manipulated by big money lobbyist.

Some lobbyist push more when we have democrat majority and some push more when it's republican.

Price influencing is happening, but the catalyst is demand. The prices are always pushed by demand, more people driving and on the roads again = more demand on gas. But yeah it gets pushed further by the lobbyist...there is just different window dressing for "what" causes it depending on which political party has power. Anti-oil/climate change etc. is the drum beaten when it's democrats and when it's republicans it seems to be some sort of conflict/war mongering with one of the countries that supplies the majority of our oil.
