Recruiting forum off topic thread (no politics, covid, or hot button issues)

Do explain….
Fellowship with the Lord thru genuine repentance for the sin in our lives. We are imperfect people since the fall of Adam. We live in perpetual sin and should, in turn, be in a state of perpetual repentance to restore fellowship with a God willing to forgive and forget our sins, casting them as far as the east is to the west.

***Disclaimer: I know not everyone shares this belief, nor do they come to VN to hear about it.

Fellowship meaning church? So people screw up and go on Sunday to feel better? I’ve always wondered about that honestly. I know people go for the social hour and church cred.

Some folks just take it a little far for me. Church Every Sunday, front pew, sing all the hymns, and be back at 6 for evening service. All the while he’s telling me I’m going to hell if I don’t follow said “rules”. Why can’t I live by the lord rather than someone’s version of what he says?

I think what you are describing is a marked trend developing over the last few decades of people who identify as SNPR - spiritual, not practicing religious. Church attendance was dropping even pre-Covid as more people yearn for a direct communion with God/the other; versus having some other human being read rules and dogmatic doctrine to you and tell you to obey or be in trouble.

I’m not saying this is wrong or right, just pointing it out. I also imagine trends like this have ebbed and flowed countless times over the millennia.

I have the belief that I can do the lords work and it doesent involve a building. There are countless ways to do it and someone shouldn’t have to go to receive credit.

Not saying preachers are completely wrong but don’t damn people to hell simply because they don’t follow your vision of the word.

To your point about what I believe you understood the word “fellowship” to mean in the above discussion, the Lord does call us (Christians) to be “in fellowship with one another”. The idea that it’s God and me, and I don’t need anyone else is not biblical.

That being said, being in fellowship with other Christians is not to be done as an effort to be seen, check a box, or any other selfish motive. Being in fellowship with other Christians is meant to foster gathering in corporate worship and to be there to support/cheer/console one another in our peaks and valleys.

It's a very stagnant existence imo. Even with the pending WW3 on the cusp, mankind is also on the verge of understanding their capacity to create and navigate the universe unlike any other time hin it's history. Navigate "reality".

And Church is SO boring. I love reading the Bible- for a variety of reasons.
But going to church EVERY Sunday to hear someone talk about the same stuff that has been talked about for 2,000 years is just...blah. Just stale...
AM Zion, Baptist, Non-denomenation, ANY other religious mandated weekend practice is just stale and old, and tiresome. End already!

What about turning the Sahara green? What about creating a system to end money and world hunger??
What about America winning the space war and Proving we truly are a benevolent nation?

And that’s my biggest problem. To many “Christian” folks do it for the wrong reasons. Pastors are absolutely included in that. All welcoming, all supporting, all together, receiving the word not their version of the word.

I have questions that will never be answered because no one has answers and they’re to raw and real and touch the core of believing.

Fellowship is my relationship with God. Going to church does not restore that. The only reason I go to church is to worship with other believers and to hear a message. It does make me feel better. But I never wait until Sunday when I fail.
The only version you need to worry about is the one in the Bible. Try to find other believers who believe the way you do or as close as possible. Then realize you're all a bunch of humans that need grace including yourself.

If any man speak let him speak as the oracles of God

Not what someone thinks it says

not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Let’s talk Vic Burley
Go ahead and talk. Very few people on the message board have kept to the script the entire time. Whether it is Vienna sausages, or someone’s momma joke. Why not do like most people and skim through stuff if it is no interest to you. We all fall into the off topic talk from time to time.

Very honestly because I don’t want to read about church or the Bible on a UT sports site. It’s not the place for it. In fact there are 6 Off Topic forums on just this site where anyone is welcome (and I suppose asked) to have those sorts of discussions.

Probably just like the poster you quoted has no interest in reading about Vienna sausages, your mom jokes, or bbq recipes in other recruit threads. None of those unrelated topics are any more off-topic than conversations about religion and the church. I suspect I'll find similar outrage from you in the Mauigoa thread littered with mayonnaise puns over the last couple pages, right? Or is it more selective and merely reserved for specific topics you find displeasing?

I find talk of Vienna sausages et al annoying for sure, but more the latter, honestly. Specifically church and Bible talk, and any politics really.

Sorry, but if someone asks I will answer. And you can easily scroll past it like I do boobs, puke food, etc. I don't come to a UT sports site for that, but I survive.
