Nah look at a map
Exactly. There are 3 grand divisions in the state. They are mapped out. Chattanooga is in East Tennessee. Whether someone in the Tri Cities “considers” Chattanooga to be East Tennessee or not is irrelevant. It’s not a matter of opinion.

Yes Chattanooga is about the same distance from NC as Knoxville or Johnson City. If you go much further East you’re in NC. So
What else could you consider Chattanooga than East TN?

Chatt and Knox are ETN.

We are NE TN. Two completely different things.

Chattanooga has Confederate memorials and Cemetaries.

Haynesville, now known as Johnson City, kicked the confederates out of town - to Memphis. Many here sided with the Union.

Haynesville was named after a confederate senator.
But, yes NE TN was more pro union.

Most people in the Tri Cities don’t consider Chattanooga to be East Tennessee. I’ve always considered it to be crossing the River at MM 74 outside of Lenoir City, but I didn’t really feel it until I got to where it turned Hilly between Dandridge and Morristown. 🤷‍♂️
People in the Tri Cities need to learn Tennessee geography, then.

So did a lot of Tennesseans. What's your point?

I grew up in Murfreesboro (which is the dead middle of Tennessee), live in Chattanooga, and went to law school at UT. Chattanooga has a distinct feel to it IMO. It seems like a transition city between Middle Tennessee, East Tennessee, and North Georgia with a culture it’s own. True East Tennessee (like the Tri-Cities and Knoxville) is just different. I really think Chattanooga’s unique geographic position makes it truly a gateway to East Tennessee and North Georgia without really being either place. But to me, Monteagle Mountain is the landmark that separates Middle and East Tennessee geographically.
