Using my weapon will always be the last course of action, as getting distance is the preferred method to end such scenarios. That being said, what if the perp had shot and the driver had no way of defending himself. I guess he (or his family if he had been killed) could feel good that he wasn’t a part of the “Annie grab your gun” culture at least. As McGill would say…🐂💩
Damn straight

The ones quick to grab your gun are the problem.

My best ever game in high school came against Salem back in the day. They were one of our rivals.

If I get back down in SWVA this fall maybe I'll run over and check him out.

@ButchPlz, where did you go to high school? I’m from Rke, VA and graduated Cave Spring in 1989.

Edit- just read prior post. I had a lot of friends who went to Byrd. Depending when you graduated, most likely you know some of them.

I graduated in 2008, but know a lot of folks that are a little older than me.

I had a lot of Cave Spring friends. I always liked playing them before the state messed up the districts. To me the old Roanoke Valley district will always be the best.

What yr did you graduate high school?

I haven’t followed high school athletics in yrs. I knew the Barber twins when they played little league sports, when they were around 12 yrs old. They both graduated from Cave Spring, before JJ Reddick, who later played @ Duke and NBA.

I graduated in '78. I played several games at Victory Stadium. Those were the days. Fleming, PH, Pulaski County, Northside and Cave Spring. Great games against good schools.

My older brother graduated cave spring in 85. He was a basketball stud who played against Salem’s Richard Morgan (UVA), Pulaski’s Michael Porter, and twins @ Fleming who attended VMI.

I don’t recall the year but remember a football player, Chance Crawford, getting severely injured in a game. I attended a few games @ Victory stadium and recall being a scared kid after a PH/Fleming game. There were fights all around us.

I know Richard's brother Charlie. He was head coach at Dobyns Bennett for years. Porter was a great player. I think he still holds scoring record at the Arby's tournament in Bristol.

My brother was point guard for cave spring and had the task of running the offense plus guarding Porter in the post season tournament. He shut down Porter and Cave Spring upset Pulaski. I was just a young teen but a happy brother.

Cave Spring was always a tough place to play but to hold Porter down is awesome. I hope your brother is still telling that story.

I wish I could recall the “twins” that played for Fleming in 1985, my brother’s sr yr at Cave Spring . I think their names were Ra’mon and Da’mon. My brother played against them and all three were on the same AAU team.

Idk if it’s changed, but Cave Spring High was for 10th-12th graders, not freshmen. Billy Hicks played for Cave Spring and later became head coach, coaching JJ Reddick to a state title. I don’t recall many other elite athletes beyond the Barber twins. It’s funny that I was their babysitter one summer and I never got paid for the last two weeks of the job.

Ramon and Damon were two best players that I saw play at Fleming. They might still hold NCAA re cord for scoring by twins. My senior year Fleming had a good team but the best team FC played was Halifax. IMO the best team ever in Roanoke was the late 80's PH team. George Lynch was great but they had 4 other starters that were good. I believe they beat Alonzo Morning's team in the state tournament.

Well that was a fun surprise.
