Chattanooga is a rough place, hope the kid stays focused and we get this dude!!

Chattabooga has its “ rough” areas like any city, but overall it is still voted one of the best cities in the US to live in. I grew up in Cleveage, and the Chattanooga now compared to late 1960s is night and day different.

I visit Cleavage daily, somehow it always gets me worked up which is why I live in the Nether Region....

I mean I know everyone's cracking jokes here, but Chattanooga has terrible gang violence. I was shocked to learn it myself.

We almost moved there last year from Knoxville, and my wife was distraught about the whole idea with two young kids.

If Chattanooga is rough I’d say Knoxville is as well. Went to school in Chattanooga for 4 years, my sister is currently going there now, never had a problem at all. Every city has areas you shouldn’t walk in alone at night.

Knoxville has less crime by orders of magnitude. Chattanooga had more murders per capita than Nashville.

Unless you grew up with Samuel L Jackson over there on that side of town…

And nowadays that side of town has built up and improved.

I think you’re wrong dude.

Baylor’s campus and surrounding is as nice as you’ll find at the high school level

I just said I agree with his analysis often. Didn’t get into his qualifications. He played college ball, though. How many of those analysts did? Most did not.

I’ve known a couple of them…one who still does it for a living and one who doesn’t. I won’t name names. The one who doesn’t is the one whose opinion I’d put more stock in, but his ability as an analyst wasn’t really as important as other factors. I’ll leave it at that.

I used to post here (and on Scout) as GregAmsler.
Why’d you change your username?

It's like anywhere else...stay out of the rough areas of town and you are fine. The Chattanooga area is a really nice place to live.

I don't doubt that there's some really nice places in Chattanooga, I often envy some of the benefits they have.

But it's hard to ignore the prevalence of violent crime when you're comparing staying in Knoxville to moving to Chattanooga with 2 young girls. Just hard to believe it's made national news like it has.

I lived in Chattanooga my entire life (52 years) and never once had an issue with violence. I know there's places I probably shouldn't hang out in, but as others have said, that's every city in this country that has any larger population. The worst part about Chattanooga today is the traffic. You can't move in any part of this city quickly anymore.

Chattanooga is not that bad. Yes stay out of the rough areas but mostly you don't have to worry about violence.

I am from Chattanooga and Knoxville...and I am telling you, the rough parts of town are no different no matter where you go.

Your first mistake is listening to the news...they blow every negative thing out of proportion....and don't be a bubble wrap daddy...lol.

Chattanooga being where it is geographically, the "bad parts" are probably wherever the Georgia people are.

What do you have against bubble wrap?!?

I'm sure your right, but moving to a new area it can be hard to figure out what the bad areas are and if it's practical to avoid them. We were just going to live in Ooltewah and commute to work. Thankfully, I ended up in a better situation in Knoxville.
