Tennessee rolls back into Neyland for arguably the most anticipated game of the season. For some, it is Florida. For others, it is Bama. The importance of the rivalries may be disputed, but the magnitude of this game is not. It is huge.

Keys to Victory:

1. Attack through the Air: Bama, as we all know, is pretty much stacked from top to bottom, every year. Even when they have deficiencies, it maddeningly doesn't seem to matter, and they win anyways. When looking for holes in this season's team, you find it in the secondary. Breakerboy will be here in a minute to tell you exactly why they are terrible, but I'll just give you numbers.

The Bama defense is 61st in the nation in pass defense. They have given up 400 yards passing to ARK and 421 to Ole Miss. However, they are also opportunistic. They have 6 INT's, 3 of which have been returned for touchdowns. Tennessee needs to exploit the holes in the Bama secondary, and I would look for Debord to dial up a ton of screens for Kamara to take advantage of an over aggressive defense. He did this brilliantly against A&M.

2. Ball Security: Tennessee has been flirting with disaster all season. Only 4 teams in Division 1 have lost more fumbles than Tennessee. That's not counting the ones we have actually recovered. I believe someone said we have fumbled 21 times, and lost 8. You cannot do that this week. Interceptions as well. Turnovers are huge.

3. Complete Game:
This one repeats from last week, because it's still true, and it still hasn't happened. Tennessee must play well for 4 quarters. I do not doubt the heart of this team, but their execution has not been there for a full game yet. This is week 7...

4. Something Special:Tennessee hasn't been bad on special teams, but last season, they were spectacular. They need to make something special happen this week to give them an edge.

5. Crowd Factor:
The mood around the Tennessee fanbase seems oddly positive, given the loss on Saturday. Everyone can see, and appreciate the effort that is coming every week. The Vols have knocked off both of their other rivals already this season, and there is one scalp left to claim. The crowd is going to be hungry for this one, and is going to make life very difficult for Bama, as long as the Vols are still in the game.

Prediction: Well, this certainly won't earn me many "likes" on here, so I guess I'll have to get my dopamine fix from other places this week. Tennessee has yet to put together a complete game, and I just can't get over that. I can't predict them to do something I have seen them fail to do 6 times already this year. They have the talent. The depth is questionable with key injuries, but they just don't have the consistency, so this one is a loss. If they put it all together though, all bets are off.

Still doubting this team huh? 684 yards of offense with 7 Turnovers and dropped passes. Bama offense isn't better than A&M. That defense is but that offense is near as dynamic.

I'm waiting to end this streak Saturday and for everyone to eat crow all over the place.

Wonder if coming off a loss with a playoff bid on the line will make this team play four quarters. 😎😎😎😎😎

When firing on all cylinders, I'm with you. I just can't project them to do that for a full game though. Like I said, if they do that, they can definitely win. I need to see it. Right now, I see turnovers, mounting injuries and inconsistencies on both side of the ball.

I'm hoping they turn the corner this week. Hurd's injury showed a whole new dynamic to our offense. I think Debord can do a lot more this week with Hurd and the new wrinkles shown last week.

Keep going BB. You'll have my prediction at "Vols by 14" by kick-off :eek:lol:

Who has Bama played that will hit them for four quarters?

Is this Bama team stronger than the one that escaped with a 5 point win LAST year? I know for a fact this Tennessee team is. And we are improving on offense too. The O-line is getting much better and Byrd can rip some big plays off on those second and third CBs.

Oh and watch scary Malone play hard this week. He's got pressure on him with the young WRs making plays. Smh lol

If your predicting a loss, you just lost all credibility of everything til the last sentence. It was a good little write up til then. If we only lose the ball 5 times we beat ATM comfortably. Now we get bama, some people just find the negative in everything I guess.

Initially I said 24-21 Volunteers but then Engineer made a good point about slowing Bama offense but then BB made Bama sound like Tennessee Tech...

24-21 Vols

I'm with bb, statement win over the beloved tide. ESPN, CBs, every media outlet is gonna be mad. Streaks over, we punch our ticket to ATL amp possibly the playoffs. Fans mock kiffy, Verne retires early due to bama loss. Rocky Top will never be sang this loud again. I might actually shed tears of joy listening to the tennessee waltz after the win. Knoxville sentinels Sunday headline...... Vols win...that's all! 33-18

I think this is the one huge point that Nick failed to address. This team is hungry to prove how good it is. It shows by sleepwalking in 1st halves and then realizing they must go and turning it on in the 2nd half. I fully believe this team uses the loss to their advantage as fuel to push through all the aches and pains for this last huge game before the bye week, and I believe they use the loss to re-focus on the big picture and put together our first complete game of the year.

With all of that said, I haven't made a score prediction since the Appy St game and I won't here. However, if, if, if we don't turn the ball over any and don't allow any non-offensive points, dem Vols show just how good we are and WIN BY DOUBLE DIGITS.

LET US GO!!!

Injuries are my only real concern. I think, full strength, we are as good as Bama.

Remember, Hurts ain't ever played in an atmosphere like this.

I can't predict a Vol loss. This team has too many weapons. Vols win. Saban gets so mad he reveals that his real name is Rumpelstiltskin, runs from the stadium in shame, jumps into the Tennessee river (which immediately begins to boil), and is never heard from again.

We have had slow starts and inconsistent play in every game we've played this season. The first couple of games I wanted to think these things were flukes, but they are now part of who we are as a team IMO. I'm with Nick. Until we come out strong and give a consistent effort for four quarters, I expect the mistakes and slow starts to continue. We can't do that against Bama and come away with a win.

Bama - 31
UT - 27

Disclaimer: I said it last week when I predicted an A&M win, and I'll say it again this week while predicting a Bama win, if we put it all together we could make it to the playoff. That won't happen with 2 losses though, so the time to put it all together is now.

GO VOLS!

Good OP, nick.

The realist in me says you have not beaten Bama until you have beaten Bama. Just like the Florida streak. Oh, wait...

Kirkland being back is big IMO. More flexibility even if he will be a little rusty. I have moved from the anti-Jumper camp to neutral status and acknowledge at times he is making big time plays to go with pile checkers well down the field. If Shoop can somehow pair the two with McDowell spelling them for rest - well, things just got interesting for me. Dobbs and the receivers have to be on the same page. Malone and Croom need to make amends. No more excuses. If the pass game is clicking and Debord calls a game like the last one - our guys definitely can get it done. However, having 7 TO's, 12 penalties, a rash of injuries, and starting slow will not get it done against an elite program. They now know the miracle comeback method is flawed.

So tell me, folks - is what we have seen this season the identity of Team 120? Can Team 120 play a full game, or at least 3 quarters of one, without bonehead stuff happening? Can Debord do it twice in a row?

If the answers are no, yes, yes: UT 41 Bama 28.
If the answers are yes, no, no: Bama 45 Vols 21
If the answers are yes, no, yes: Bama 35 Vols 28

This is getting too complicated for my feeble mind to predict any other combinations.

He sure hasn't. I expect that Kiffin might come out conservative for the first few series to let him settle into the game.

Butch and DeBord need to let Kamara take over. Feed the hot hand.

I would be tempted to go with split backs almost the entire game. That would have Bama's defense guessing who is running the ball, or are we throwing it.

Both run to opposite sides, chip block and set up to take a screen. LBs and Safeties bite up to blow up the screen leaving JJ and Malone on a post and go route respectively. Put some air under it and the attitude from the FL game comes out of or WRs as they high point the ball and then shed a tackle.

Er. Rope a dope, with a Gator beat down flurry. Darn straight. No need to try to be something you're not.

Got to keep the ball away from Bama secondary.
