You made my eyes leakThank you peay for posting this. Hearing John Ward call a game once again reminds me of the story I’ve told many times of how I became a fan on here. A nine year old girl, sitting in the front of her father’s car on a drive to the Smokies because it was my turn to. My memory stinks at my age now, but I can still see the trees, the sunlight cutting through the tree leaves, the smells of fall and hearing that voice on the radio calling a game. (It was back when you had to tune the radio knob just right to pickup a station) . A emoji really doesn’t cut it and I hate it for our younger Vols.
They did that last year too. I don't think we'll be caught off guard. The scheme, Milton, and our WR's will be fine.
This game is dangerous because this is a must win for Napier. That means he is going to be very aggressive and throw the kitchen sink at us (similar to the AP coach trying to make a name for himself). What does that mean for us?
1) Defense needs to be ready for trick plays. Play sound gap assignments.
2) Defense needs to be ready to play all 4 downs. In other words, be ready to line up on defense for a quick 4th down snap vs mindlessly running off the field after a failed 3rd down conversion.
3) Special teams should be in safe on FG's and punts.
4) Special teams need to be prepared for onside kick attempts at every kick off.
If we do those, we can turn those momentum plays into a blowout win. If not, it will be way closer (and possible loss) than player talent and scheme would otherwise dictate.
Says who? The players adopt all the rivalries and traditions from the fans when they come here. Who's to say "curses" aren't on that list as well? No. It’s a mental hurdle for fans. Not for players that haven’t followed UT football their entire lives.

Obviously the attitude should be that the past has nothing to do with the present. But that's true in anything. And yet people let the past impact the present all the time. Doubt doesn't need to be rational. My sports teams growing up had similar streaks and rivalries and we certainly felt that, even if some of them were from before we were even born.
The coaching staff is gonna convince the players this is just an SEC road game, as they should. But saying with certainty that streak has no effect on the players is just ignoring the human element.
