We will likely need a +2 in TOs to win this game, and JG will have to play mistake-free on his decision-making (which he has pretty much done in the first 2 games w/ few exceptions). I got excited when I saw the first half of the UGA-Ark game, but once UGA brought Bennett in that offense looked much different. The UT D will have to do a much better job of forcing him to make mistakes than Arkansas or Auburn were able to do for UT to have a chance. And the best way to force a QB to make mistakes is put him in 3rd and longs, so the D has to win 1st and 2nd downs, which is a tall order with UGA's RBs. And we need to win STs. I think UT can force an upset, but we have flip the field a few times with STs and TOs to have a realistic chance.
Yeah we have to play damn near the perfect game

On paper they win the game, and they looked the part Saturday. I remember one year in the 00’s that, the week before we played uga AU beat us and GA trucked LSU. And damn if we didn’t go out and beat them the next week.

If they are going to beat us, I hope we keep it competitive. And for the love of all things good and right in this world, I hope our guys go out there with the mindset that, win or lose, they are going to find one of those front-running, won nothing, Larry Munson (who can’t even carry John Ward’s jock) worshipping, bowl cut coach having, under achieving, sh!t talking pups and hit them right in their f’n nose.

It's funny you mention that 2004 game. I was just watching it. Georgia was ranked #3 and had beaten LSU 45-16 the previous week. We were ranked #17 and had just gotten demolished by Auburn. No one expected Tennessee to win. UGA was a national title contender. But the Vols went out there and Fulmer made them play Fulmerball and got out with a 19-14 win.

To win, we have to be able to run against them. That's no easy task, they're the best defense in the nation against the run. But we have the best OL in college football. If we can establish the run, control the clock, we can go in there and get a low scoring win. I think our defense will be ready for their passing game. So our DL will have to stop their run game also. But its all going to be about whether or not we can establish the run against them. They'll sell out to stop it and trust their DB's to cover our receivers man to man. We need to make plays off of play action and it just so happens that this is our strength. If we win, it's going to be a 24-20 type game.

Tennessee heads down I-75 this week, winners of 8 in a row to test their mettle against the Georgia Bulldogs. On paper, Georgia has more talent, having brought in some of the best classes in the nation over the previous few seasons. The good news is that Tennessee is closing that gap. The Vols are not yet at that level, but every year, they add more and more pieces and are finally more than just schedule fodder for the Bulldogs.

Keys to Victory:

1. Turnover Margin: Tennessee is going to need some breaks. So far this season, they are +3 in turnovers, giving the ball up 0 times. Georgia has 4 takeaways with 2 turnovers lost. The Vols need to be on the right side of this margin at the end of the game. JG has done a good job taking care of the football, especially the last game, although he almost had a horrible mistake when he was getting hit. He needs to make the right decisions all night long and not become the next mark on safety Richard LeCounte III's hit list.

2. Outrush UGA: I'm not sure when the last time Tennessee outran Georgia... maybe with Dobbs... but it's not been very often over the past decade. Zamir White is a great RB but he is not at that level (yet) that they have been churning out in recent years (Gurley, Chubb, Swift, etc.) And for the first time since Jalen Hurd, the Vols have some dudes who can peel off yards themselves. Both teams feature massive and talented Offensive Lines that can clear the way for their RBs.

The Vols are averaging 182.5 yards per game at 4.35 yards per carry.
The Pups are averaging 161.5 yards per game at 3.61 yards per carry.
Nice little edge for Tennessee, however...

The Georgia defense is giving up a paltry 58 yards per game, 2.32 YPC.
Tennessee is giving up 107.5 yards per game and 3 YPC.
That's a clear edge for Georgia, and I'm not sure that there is much difference between our relative opponents.

3. Clean up the Defense: While Tennessee improved on defense last week, there were still too many breakdowns in the secondary, with Alontae getting burned badly while trying to jam a receiver and another WR dropping a wide open pass in the middle of the field that should have scored. Georgia will not make these mistakes. If Tennessee can't get this dialed in, they will be made to pay. George Pickens is the best WR outside of Bama the Vols will see all year and they are going to have their hands full with him. I expect UGA to try to fully exploit the short range passing game with plenty of slants and begin taking shots downfield if we begin to sit on the routes. Vol fans need to hope Shawn Shamburger is not only available, but rust free because we will need his edge. Aside from that, the Vols have relied on a pretty vanilla defense so far this year so it will be interesting to see if we have anything dialed up for Stetson Bennett or if we are content to let him try to make the throws. He can be slippery to get hold of and is a wee little thing, but he has been efficient with the ball and hasn't made a lot of mistakes. I'd love to see our DL get in his face and see Pruitt bring DB blitzes off of the edge.

4. Surprise, Surprise?: This is the type of game where Pruitt is likely to take a chance or two with an unexpected onside kick, fake punt or some tomfoolery with a TE. He's been talking a big game about not playing and coaching with fear. This is a great chance to steal an edge when the opponent is not expecting it.

Prediction: Contractually, Tennessee must lose this game, playing in the 3:30 CBS time slot. I'm already stressed just thinking about the theme music. Expect UGA to have the most 20% full stadium you've ever seen. I think it's a solid game, but it's too early for the Vols to win this one. It's not out of the realm of possibility, but I just can't get myself into the realm of PROBABILITY, and that's where I try to get my predictions to land.

They will be playing on my birthday and the last 2 times this has happened, we beat them when we weren't supposed to. Go Big Orange!!!!

I just don't know how good we are. We haven't played a good team since Bama last year. And we were in that game as you all know with a chance to win.
I think we have grown into a much better team since that Bama game. That Bama game was also a night game in front of a packed house which made for a hard environment to play in.

This one comes down to 3 main points IMO.

*Turnovers - Have to be on the right side of this one and take the ball away once or twice
*Matchup between our DL and their OL - So far this season I would project them to have an adv here, hopefully this is a breakout game for our DL and they show out
*Special Teams - Have to be as close to perfect here to create any adv possible

Win these 3 matchups and I like our chances

Don't know if anyone has reported this yet, but one of my buddies that works with some of the football team is telling me Jerome Carvin has a case of turf toe and is doubtful for Georgia, as of now. He's going to get it evaluated this morning to see if he can practice on it this week.

Well, I guess that means Cade or Spraggins plays guard.

Question:: how far is Tennessee behind Georgia in raw talent? Specifically, meaning is our first team comparable to their first team? If so, where is the separation? Their second team?

Yeah. Their second team is probably almost as good as our first team. We are 1 top 10 class away from closing the gap imo

UGA's 1st team DL is way ahead of ours. Their second team DL is better than our 1s.

Otherwise, pretty even across the board on the 1s.

Their 2nd team is better than our 2nd team by a few spots, but they are big spots - LBs, DLs,

Our DL just isn't where it needs to be imo. Their offense isn't that good, but I think it'll be good enough to score too many points on our D. Close game, but I think they get us.

A bunch of negas in here. Catbone got to y'all.

UT being 14 point dogs is just plain disrespectful. You better believe Pruitt gonna have our boys ready to play.

We have the most experienced QB in the SEC playing well.

We have one of the most electric RBs in Gray running behind the best OL in the country.

We have some young receivers but they are the fastest we have had in a long time.

The DL is young but we get Middleton back and we will rotate to keep them fresh. They will hold up for 4 quarters.

Henry T rises up to the occasion in big games and this one is no different.

Hopefully we get Sham back and we got our DB positions set up.

Our kicker was elite last year and no reason to believe he will return to form this Saturday.

Both Pruitt and Chaney have been at UGA. They know the schemes and i believe we have a better coaching staff that will make adjustments if needed.

Pruitt gets his first of many signature wins at UT.
