WeI’m not sure I understand that logic. Neither worked. Why do people not see that we need more players? Need to get pressure with 4 or better secondary play.
You are defending him, that is the definition of carrying water for him. Seems like it bothers you that I see it differently than you. The offense has covered for this defense for 1-1/2 season now. If you can't see that GA could have scored at least two more touchdowns and believe that they didn't go conservative to run clock, there's really no point in continuing this conversation. They did whatever they wanted to do.
As to the offense, I've stated Heupel/Golesh/Hooker had a terrible game and game plan. About as bland as I've seen it. It's rare for the offense to lay an egg. It's not rare for the defense, it's a regular occurrence, even in wins. The Vols have won many games in spit of the defense, not because of the defense.
You are correct about the offense, for whatever reason they didnt give Hooker any safety valves today, but again go watch the second half again 3rd and long and Banks dropped everyone back every time. We do need to get pressure with 4, but the facts are we werent, so you have to send guys and make something happen at that point. We did multiple times and didn’t fare well. The point is that we need to be able to get pressure with 4. Bennett knew where to go with it. For some reason, our offense did not. We ran no hot routes.

I wish we wouldve made it closer, the defensive stats look decent for the second half, but UGA really did just take the air out of the ball and control clock because we couldnt move it.The second half wasn’t the problem though. We blitzed several times in the first and got burned. It really didn’t matter what we did. Defense played ok…offense hurt us.
And i said im not going to argue that, before the game if you told me UGA scored 27, I wouldve thought we had an easy win, but they scored 27 because of how the game played out we dont know if they couldve scored more or not, they didnt need to.They ran the ball and had some success. So that’s why they could do it. Once again, falls back on the offense.
The game was never in doubt. They scored until they didn't need to. You quoted me on my criticism of banks. They basically spent the whole second half running the clock. They had all they needed.Yeah the only point I was debating, again, was about today. Not the whole season. The offense is the engine that makes us go. Today they didn’t go.
UGA 2nd half possessions:
- FG
- fumble lost (so our D forced a turnover)
- punt
- punt
So “they did whatever they wanted to do” except continue to score points and put the game away for good.
But our offense (which I agree is the strength of the team and had been elite before tonight):
- punt
- fumble lost
- turnover on downs
- TD
- turnover on downs
Yeah they are just to slow to get separation against DBs that are that athletic. There were several really poor throws though. Tillman didn’t have a lot of opportunities to go up and get it and multiple deep balls were overthrown. Pressure had something to do with a lot of them. And i said im not going to argue that, before the game if you told me UGA scored 27, I wouldve thought we had an easy win, but they scored 27 because of how the game played out we dont know if they couldve scored more or not, they didnt need to.
But anyways I just posted this in the RF, but I think the playcalling has to do with our wideouts. Im in no way saying theyre bad, but I dont think they excel at what you kinda need to do to beat how UGA played. Tillman and Bru are big possession guys and Hyatt is a deep threat burner, I really think this wouldve been a good game for a Payton or Velus type player. We tried to run some middle of the field crosser stuff but we didnt have guys who could win on those routes. We needed more mesh concepts but our guys dont really excel at those kind of routes. Again im not in any way saying theyre bad because theyre not, just that maybe UGA is just that bad of a matchup for us right now.

Which us why I wish we wouldve ran more mesh routes underneath.
Agree. Looked similar to our D last week. They played well in 2nd half, even with a few short fields.Yeah the only point I was debating, again, was about today. Not the whole season. The offense is the engine that makes us go. Today they didn’t go.
