Recruiting Forum: Official South Carolina Pre-Game/Game Thread

Kid has not lived up to the hype. I've watched him hit 65 yarders in practice at camps.

He may be an All American practice player

This. Saw it in person in fall camp and posted on here. Looks All Pro in practice. Then the lights come on and...

Not here to argue and everyone has their opinion but to me the one thing you can't say about CBJ is that he is lazy. Stubborn,? yes. Lazy, nah. He just needs to fire Debord and get an successful OC with a new O scheme.jmo

Agree. That is a completely wrong accusation to say he is lazy. There are many other words that you can use, but not that one.

I still don't understand why you try a 57 yard fg, why do you run a 4 yard out to the te, why don't you throw it up and let Jennings try and make a play? Throw that dam percentage sheet he looks at when deciding plays at the end of the game in the trash. He should've went for the TD and least tried to win at the end. Gutless play calling all game. It's embarrassing, thanks butch, we are now the laughing stock of the sec

We have been the laughingstock for a decade… Why stop now? Our Fanbase deserves so much better. Butch has lost the few things that he could hang his hat on as a coach… The ability to always have his team motivated, ready to play, be disciplined, and physical. It is how we hung around in games that we were out talented by a mile. Since he has lost that, now what?

Coach is lazy as hell. Reason recruiting has fallen off too. He needs a pink slip for that Dooley level loss. I will watch Tennessee play but I won't root for Butch Jones again at Tennessee. I'm done with that clown of a head coach.

When have you heard of Alabama having a soft training camp? Last year was hard and the players smashed teams weekly. We were soft this preseason and have came out soft all year. Butch is in over his head and his inconsistent offenses coupled with a lack of identity with a veteran team proves it.

Butch is a lot of things. But you lost me at "lazy". That is a stupid thing to say. I'm not defending his actual coaching ability here either. But calling him that is just dumb. Your hyperbole has gone to the other extreme.

I think something is wrong internally with the program that we don't know about

Watching this mess of a season and the thing I've noticed almost all year, Dobbs is constantly by himself on the sideline, last year it was like the team was always rallying around him,not so much this year, beginning to wonder if the offensive players maybe see there are better options on the bench and are upset with Butch and his experience and loyalty crap.

Someone should have told Muschump it's year 0 and he's supposed to just lie down and not beat anyone.

MAN I wanted this team to finally get over the hump!

Since VN is in full melt down mode; my thoughts based on observations at fall camp, games and discussions with a couple VFL friends who have coached.

The Butch Stones love affair is over. I have wanted him to make it big here. He just doesn't think right to become an elite coach at this point. Maybe he can grow a brain with a couple more years if he makes the appropriate changes he has failed to make despite evidence he needed to make them over multiple years. If we know it, how much more do you think opposing programs know it? Saban, McElwain, Muschamp, etc. have all dissed Butch in the past. They know they are superior coaches with superior systems as does the media. Is that who we want leading our beloved Vol program, a guy that cannot become an elite coach and who cap is 9-10 wins despite recruiting a talented roster?

With much more money available in the kitty and all other coaching buyouts paid off, the new Chancellor and AD will have more authority to make changes. Butch's only leverage at this point is the buyout since the season is shot and his goodwill strongly reduced. The new administrators will be ordered not to repeat the Fulmer and Dooley fiascos to maintain a quality roster for the next guy.

Butch probably gets two years. Bringing Canada (good posts on him on here) or equivalent in with the authority to change the offensive system and pitiful assistant coaches would be a wise move if he wants to stay. Gillespie should be made a top assistant to the new OC, who would have to be a complete idiot not to want him. Chandler better be a Vol next season. The OC needs to be a QB coach or the staff reconfigured so there is one. The most important player on the field needs a real coach to handle him. The advantage Fulmer always had was Coach Cut who handled both. Same with Kiffin, who could handle them as well as Chaney. Look what they did with a dud.

S&C. Really? That's what you can deliver; a bunch of injured athletes all season despite how pretty they look in uniform?

That's it. Over it all. Hope Team 120 wins out. But this season was the best opportunity to make something special happen. The recruiting will likely take a hit now.

I remember an interview with Wolfe after the Florida game, he was asked after all the drops how he refocused to make the big catch later in the game and he said that JG was on the sideline constantly in his ear incouraging him. I thought that was really telling at the time. Especially when you add in it took SJ lighting up the Oline during the VT game.

The players absolutely love JG. I personally observed it in fall camp. They know he is their best shot at doing something special.

Sounds to me that the need a good butt chewing. They need to focus on the now and stop focusing on the future.

Butch IS NOT GOING TO CHANGE "HIS" offense. Period. That's the ONLY reason debord was brought in. Cause he wouldn't make a fuss.

If Dobbs starts rest of season, I'm gonna find something else to do on Saturdays.

I think most of us believe CBJ is doing the best he can. Sometimes, that's just not good enough. The world is full of people who find their ceiling is lower than they hoped.

I find myself wondering if we'd win a single division game if we were in the west. Maybe MSU? So much talent squandered, and Butch will do just enough to keep his job until the talent stops coming in.

And I'm baffled at those putting the abysmal play of this team on Shoop. He has 3rd and 4th stringers out there at some positions and still keeps us in position to win with no help from the offense (other than Bama).
