'20 Recruiting Forum: Official South Carolina Pregame/Game Thread

I’m being petty but there’s a number of uscjr players that our staff wanted, but who chose to go to uscjr instead. Jaycee Horn and Joseph Anderson immediately come to mind. Horn was a UT commit who bailed on us. Jammie Robinson and Zaquandey White were also guys we courted. Just off the top of my head.

Feels good to hand them another reminder that they made the wrong choice.
I'm being more petty thinking about Arik and the LB that went to LSU.

Despite their opening drive for a TD, if we had been able to run the ball consistently, this game would not have been close.

Which concerns me, given the preseason build-up for our OL.

But I just appreciate these young men coming out and playing, given all the turmoil they have been through.

1-0 Go Vols!
We only had 10 yards in the first half. If we go to the run more in the first half, I think we finish with around 200 for the game, which is pretty strong.

Much happier to have these conversations after a W. Pretty much agreed about jg. Frustrating. Lots of opportunities missed last night.

I liked that he did find what, 8 different receivers? Stat line looks better that the eye test as usual.... And he didn't turn it over and wasn't a disaster. 🤷‍♂️

Defense is a work in progress but flashes of Good to great from several... DJ and KB we're very good. Baron showed up rest to play. Slaughter had a good debut all things considered.

Special teams... Mixed bag.

Coaching.. Mixed bag.

1-0... Bring on Mizzou. GBO

I will agree and add though, special teams, Velus Jones looks great he is going to house one and soon.

Yeah... He looked "different"once he got to second gear...

Happy for Brandon Johnson too...

Gray and Chandler both ran hard.

It was mostly all good... More consistent QB play on the errant throws and fix some of the coverage issues... That game is probably a blow out...

Lack of reps in the off season... Looked rusty. They should get better. Glad we have a couple weeks before "the meat"of the schedule kicks in...

We still don't deserve this win

Our young men have worked their asses off and deserved every bit of this win. They don’t deserve completely negative weak minded fans like you. Read this entire thread to see you crap all the way thru it from the beginning. You need to go pull for one of our rivals. It’s pathetic. We win and you say they don’t deserve it. Loser mentality

SC was stacking the box all night. You could tell their game plan was to make Chaney/JG throw to win. It was a good plan for them, since JG still can’t throw it consistently.

Those flip tosses to velus count as completed passes. Take those out and looks more of what we saw.

My only frustrations was the sailed balls by JG that’s already been hit on. I thought his movement was much better post snap tho, footwork seems to have improved. He’s still slow tho, no real dual threat there except for some short yard bursts.
Other gripe was lack of pressure from dline. Will have to go back and watch, but didn’t seem like we had much unless blitzing...which were few

I like the way someone put it last night. If 5 balls had been thrown 18 inches lower, there would be a 14-17 pt difference between these two teams.
It’s true. I also think Keyton should have caught the sideline throw, he looked awkward, Mis-timed jump? He should have also caught the double move deep down the middle as well. His second move was to the right post but he then turned to the left, ball was thrown to the right which made sense to me. Definitely not defending the high throws. Keyton reminds me of Palmer when he was younger, needs to develop his body control / ball presence skills because they won’t all be perfect.... certainly not with JG.

I thought the edge pressure was good. Had 4 sacks and had others where Bennett got upfield and Collins stepped up. I really like the development of Bennett and Johnson. Imagine when higher rated guys like Morven, Barron, and guys from the 21 class start playing full time.

Absolutely typical TN FOOTBALL. This is the product that you almost expect, week in and week out.

Incompetent QB play and continuously shooting ourselves in the foot.
Do see them doing anything after seeing all the points he left on the field? Is anyone pushing behind closed doors?

Elijah Simmons impressed me. Good middle stopper. Once he gets the tilt, throw move down he is going to be hard to contain.

Still holding onto the ball way too long when he gets pressure. Needs to just get it out of there or throw it away.

Punter was pretty solid. I wish JG were a sophomore making high throws constantly, but I think we've passed the point of correcting his accuracy by now.

OL looked really good and DL looked solid, which are the two most important. We can go places with that even with rough QB and DB play.
