So why do coaches bring in ex players for motivation? Why do they have a pep talk? Why are some of the most famous speeches are pep talks? If it's 100% all on the players there's no need for that stuff. Motivation is absolutely part of the coaches job. To not think so is neive.

its up to the players to use that message. you can lead a horse to water but you cant make it drink no matter how thirsty it is.
