'18 Recruiting Forum: Official Vanderbilt Pre-Game/Game Thread

Never thought I would see the day when 5 and 6 win Vandy teams would drum us, pound us two years in a row with a clearly superior football.

I get they won three years in a row but we were a better team 3 years ago.

I understand now why Fulmer really put renovations on hold. Why renovate a stadium that might be half empty in a few years?

Seriously, I hope today's game doesn't hurt recruiting. It looked like some players just gave up and quit trying. Tackling was atrocious. The D played with no fire. On offense, Helton's play calling remains a head scratcher to me. We just straight up sucked today. What the hell happened??!

Thanks, Nick for doing these all season. Here's hoping you'll have one more.

As to the game, I think after last week these players are done. Seniors ready to put their careers behind them. Some, including some underclassmen are looking forward to getting themselves ready for the big leagues. I think Pruitt said that most of what's left to play for is pride. I don't think the collectively the team has much pride left. If you can't get up for senior day, in your own stadium, playing for bowl eligibility, and playing for the chance at a winning record, I don't see them playing inspired ball this Saturday.

I desperately hope I'm wrong but I think Vandy plays inspired football and becomes bowl eligible with a fairly convincing win. The oline continues to whiff and be outplayed. I wouldn't be surprised to see JG get knocked out again. Don't see our dline getting to their QB enough to affect his passes.

We struggle the most against teams that are balanced. They appear very balanced. This team struggles defensively to put pressure on the QB and cover. That makes the running game work.

If mason is one thing he's a pretty dang good defensive coach. My guess is he'll have a decent scheme dialed up. Our offense is vanilla and predictable so my guess is that Vandy will blitz and blitz often. We don't seem to have or execute plays to punish that. I think the offense will look putrid again Saturday.

I think Vandy wins this fairly comfortable somewhere in the 31-10 range.

Don't @ me. It's un-American.
I hate to bump this but this went down about like I expected. Wish I had been wrong.

No one said JG was an NFL QB.
Yea I’m not even gonna go back and pull post about how elite of a prospect, all the tools, finally has a qbcoach/OC.

The point was we gassed up a lot of our players and roster before the year then want to use them as an excuse for our coaches when we don’t get Ws.

I just don’t understand how Helton adjusted for USC and then regressed. I mean, I never coached. But he regressed. The OL is a problem, but we have had worse games. Playcalling matters.

Any season ticket holders thinking about non renewing or does it depend on the class?

The class at this point. Also going to make them sweat as much as possible due to traffic crap and ads on Jumbotron instead of video and no replays. Ushers not doing their job and asking why they charge more than anywhere else and the game day environment is better at other SEC venues. Auburn was awesome.

I always try to find sunshine somewhere, but I just feel so defeated as a VOLS football fan. It just feels like the team didn't care about a bowl and practice. I hope Coach brings in a good recruiting class.
We have a team full of quitters. I hate to say it, but Crouch is right, we need a purge in the worst way

Plenty of teams don't have a decent oline and find ways to move the ball. Helton hasn't shown that ability and JG doesn't help him out. Wouldn't be surprised if Helton wants out.

I don't see much reason for hope.i don't see the improvement others have seen. Hopefully recruiting will change that for me.

Anyone who said he was a NFL Qb is delusional and I thought he was our best.
