'18 Recruiting Forum: Official Vanderbilt Pre-Game/Game Thread

Like the idea of guaranteeing Pruitt and Fitz immediately. Display of confidence via contract terms to avoid negative recruiting. Still think new OC is in order too
He has enough time on his contact. Extending it at this point won't help recruiting nor quell negative recruiting from competitors. Want to quell negative recruiting, don't get blown out by Missouri and Vandy in your final two games.

I don't understand why Helton refuses to use the middle of the field with Jennings instead throwing deep balls to him.He needs to be targeted 10-12 times a game. Those long opposite field sideline throws needs to be thrown out.

I do not apologize for my disdain for people who thrive in negativity. I don't in my daily life. If I said something profane I apologize. Those of you who gripe about everyone don't have the stomach for what this team is going to have to endure.

Why stress yourself out over trying to force positivity? The programs sucks worse than it ever has and isn’t showing any signs of turning around. Ironically, you’ll probably be happier if you don’t have to scratch and claw for something to feel good about with UT football.

And I will say again it's called realistic expectations. Our O line was bad most of the year and losing a guy like Tre Smith will make a difference. Just as most on here berated Kongbo his best game was the Auburn game and losing him made a difference.

I just saw you doing the F to everyone so just thought it would be funny to give a few back. Was trying to have fun after this misery

Not that USC. I mean South Carolina. That was a good game plan even though we lost. Then his game plans went south.

UF was awful, got better against Auburn, and then called quick passes against USC. Then, we were terrible.,
I thought it was a good game plan in the first half, then SC adjusted and then we looked like:

Giving guaranteed six-year contract extensions to first-year coaches who fail to make a bowl game is on par with calling to have them fired after a disappointing Year 1. Luckily, neither will happen.

You always have clauses to get out. This is more NFL “guarantee”. Doesn’t have to be a contract but a vote of confidence will help along with a new OC.

And I'm sure the standard "We have full confidence in our coaches... believe we're heading in the right direction... will work together to get this program to where we all want it to be... yada yada yada..." vote of confidence will be given.

Problem with this guy is he can't handle the truth. Has to make excuses to cover up reality. So instead of countering with substantive information, he results to petty insults and expletives.

Many have countered my points with well thought out responses without name calling and attempted insults.

I've never called anyone out for being overly negative or overly positive. I have called people out for trolling, obviously being negative for a reaction.

Truth is each of us see the program through our own eyes. Some are optimistic with little to be optimistic about and it borders on blind Faith. That's ok. We need those posters to help balance things out. Some posters are Eeyore, catbone comes to mind. Most are somewhere in the middle.
I've tried to give Pruitt the benefit of the doubt. It's been a full year and I think we have enough of a body of work to start to form an opinion. This season has given me little to say he's the one to bring Tennessee back. Sure, his arsenal has been limited to say the least. But, I have to ask myself, did he get more out of this team than the sum of the parts and I would have to say no. While the Auburn and KY wins gave me something to hang some hope on, SC, MO, and Vandy cancelled those out, not to mention the game against Charlotte. Like I said earlier, definitely don't think he should be fired, that's rediculous. I can say my confidence in his ability to turn this program around has taken a tremendous hit. It's obvious to me he lost this team sometime during the season. He's a young coach, learning on the job so we'll

Many on here said they didn't really care as much about wins and losses but how the team improved throughout the year. Frankly I saw little improvement and some digression. Same penalties, lack of line play, lack of the ability to cover anyone, lack of a rush defense, lack of the ability to cover any one, lack of the ability to protect the passer, lack of the ability to beat press coverage, lack of the ability to rush the football. The imagination on offense was pathetic. JG never improved throughout the year, maybe even digressed. He did improve from last year.

There's been nothing this year that gives me hope next year will be any better. I'm sorry but that's the way I see it.

What will happen with the oc position? We have had 3 oc in 3 years 5 or 6 in the last 10 years. The biggest problem we have had in the last 15 years is that we run on first freaking down why will we not go away from that. When we do it generally ends in points. Can we not have someone that throws 50% of the time on 1st down?

Any season ticket holders thinking about non renewing or does it depend on the class?

I have 5 and I'm not renewing 4 of them. The wife doesn't like the seats and I couldn't really sell them and make half my money back this year. I'm not going to increase my donation to get better seats. If the family wants to come, I'll buy them somewhere else.
