OK couldn't keep bringing 8 guys every play if we had a QB capable of hitting a WR more than 10 yards down field.

Slants don't have to go 10 yards. :)

Also where are all these big time pass plays where he's just missing guys? I'm trying to figure out how you all can put this on Dobbs. We should've punished them on the edges. The Sooners didn't have the manpower to adjust. They were just too small everywhere. IMO

Yep. Slant into the area vacated by the blitzer. Would have kept then honest quick.

Hope we win by 60; maybe it will slow the whining and crying down some.

It may be better not to slow the whining and crying down too much. It's like Lucy and Charlie Brown. We have Florida coming up and it might be better all around to keep hopes in check. Underpromise and OverDeliver. I can't wait till that game. Win that one and then the whining and crying can slow down. Lose and this place is going to be out of this world entertaining especially if the majority are honestly expecting to win in the swamp.

FWIW, I expect to win the next 3 at least. :)

We SHOULD win at Florida. I am not banking on it, however. My position since Butch was hired has been 4 full years because the roster was so bad when he got here. His first year we had NFL quality on the line and not much else. The next year, D was better and the o line was awful. O line some better this year. We just aren't quite there yet. Barring any more catastrophic injuries, I expect 7-8 wins this year, anything above is gravy. 9 plus every year every year after. I just find all this chicken little/catbone sky is falling reaction hilarious.
Was it a painful loss? Yes. Life goes on, however. Is all the blame on the coaches? No. Quite a bit? Absolutely.

As fans, we need this game so we can move on from the Oklahoma nightmare. I want to see 3 things from this game 1) a complete offensive, defensive, and special teams performance in 1 game 2) a vertical pass threat and 3) lots of freshmen getting game experience.

Regarding #2...wish in one hand and poop in the other...see which one fills up faster.

In preseason it was reported Debord was pushing the ball down field much more than Jake. If you wanna give up on that after 2 games, by all means do, but hopefully the team hasn't.

Saturday night was a great time to start. They had all 11 guys within 10 yards of LOS pretty much the entire 2nd half, because they knew we wouldn't take a shot. Not giving up, as that's not who I am; however, a lot needs to be proven to me. We have all these huge WRs, yet never take advantage of our size advantage.

Again - I invite everybody, including Butch, to watch the Titans game this past Sunday to see how to attack a pressure D. That was done with an unproven rookie QB starting his first game, unproven RB's, relatively unproven line, OK receivers. It was simple and effective. But something like that is not in Butch's toolbox after 27 games at UT along with 6 previous years as a HC? He had already seen Okie's pressure D the previous season. It's not like he didn't know.

We must use the next game to work on the passing game.
I wouldn't even play Hurd.
Give our online, wrs, Dobbs, Dormady some confidence heading to swamp.
Throw it, throw it, throw it.

I think it's extremely likely that an offense like that is not, in fact, in Butch's toolbox. The guy hasn't been an OC in 12 years. He's still trying to run whatever variation of the offense he created in 2003 with DeBord combined with bits and pieces of whatever he picked up from Rich Rod in 2006 at WVU.

Good point, bud. Again, I wish we had a real football guy as an AD to call his hand. There have been some sharp posters on here that pointed out his offense may not fly in the SEC back when he was hired. Most got shouted down. Somebody of influence at UT needs to get in his head about this and fix it quick.

The recruiting performance is great. The guys appear to be in top shape and strong. The D is becoming stellar with top collegiate coaching. The special teams are greatly improved. The O and game decisions are inconsistent and not top tier at all when facing quality opponents. He is so close to getting it right if he will make the changes that are totally within his power to make. It's all on him.

The answer is simple. Slants and throw toward the route that covers the blitzed player. Ish works in NCAA 14

If a d-back/lb, or in the case of a zone blitz a d-lineman, does not rotate to the open space left by a blitzer there will be a hole in the zone there. That's where the TE, slot, WR or RB can go for a quick outlet. Slants are the perfect route for this. If they do rotate, there will be a hole in the zone from the rotation or in the case of d-lineman rotating back, a gap in the rush lane for the mobile QB to move through.

Watch how Mayfield handled it in the second half. He would look quickly downfield to see the secondary coverage, then drift until he found the hole in the rush lanes if nobody was open. He bought time, then would take off for 5+ yards if it wasn't there. It wouldn't have worked as well if our d-line had held their rush lanes and wrapped up better.

Meh, IDK. We've shown the offense can work with proper talent. UGA, Oklahoma, UF, etc all should be wins with adequate talent and proper coaching.

I see your point, but an AD meddling in a football coach's scheme and on field methods is a recipe for absolute and total disaster.

It should never happen. Period.

It did with Doug Dickey. Period. The result was some of the best football to ever hit the hill. Period.

When coaches and former coaches as AD's have respect for one another they can bounce ideas off each other. The head coach still makes the final decisions since his job is on the line. Hard to have an intelligent discussion when the AD is a basketball guy.

Johnathan Johnson caught one. I'm kinda surprised how he gets more action than North in the passing game. Plays called literally for him as the featured WR.
