Nothing's going to change. Cap'n Butch is going to keep sailing into headwinds with a stoic pout on his face. He's going to hang around and lose as many games as it takes to get his full buyout. The media will make a game out of posting Currie's mad face post-game, then the next week will continue just like the one before.

Currie may make a good hire, sure, but that's his minimum responsibility. He is also tasked with facilitating a smooth transition and protecting the image of the UT athletics brand. In those respects, Currie has already made multiple errors.

It's silly IMO to say keep Butch till you have a replacement. If the decision has been made to can him, keeping him around does more harm than good.

I guess we don't want an interim to spark the team. We have lost 7 SEC games in a row.

I was campaigning for the interim bump hard in recent weeks but now I'm starting to think there's not much to it. Guarantano came out and said the team wants to win for Butch. They just suck. An interim won't make the offensive line better. An interim won't be able to stuff the middle so every team doesn't shove the ball down our throats.

This team stinks. The talent is not there. The roster is bad. We're not in a great spot going forward. The new coach is going to take some time to build a consistent East contender.

I disagree. AD has multiple duties beyond making hiring decisions. The hire admittedly is the most important thing, but a good hire won't excuse him botching the rest of this process.

In sum, if he is sacrificing every other aspect of this process for the sake of the hire, it better be a magnificent hire.

The Vols will have a tough time outscoring Mizzou's offense. We'll be Vandy's bowl game. And watching the LSU game will require great, great intestinal fortitude. A big win for this team will be keeping JG healthy. If he keeps taking these brutal hits, he'll be lucky to finish the season.

The true one. UT doesn't want to fire CBJ until the end, or near the end, of the season. There have been several windows when a valid argument arose for firing him early (after UGA, after SCAR, after UF fired Mac), and UT has stuck to the plan every time.

Why is that the plan? Currie just thinks that CBJ gives UT best chance to win right now? I can’t help but feel like 3-9 is extremely likely if he finishes the season.

No way of knowing you are right. Team is still playing hard. They just aren't any good. I don't see how naming an interim changes any of that.

6-6 bowl games aren't exactly a reward. Small potatoes. The hire is what matters.

Nothing about this is fun though. It would be much easier to tolerate if the fanbase could go full coach search mode. That's coming though rest assured.

Probably. I’m confident that Currie has some type of plan and knows who he’s going after/who’s interested. In the mean time I’d just like to see them not have the worst record in school history.
