So firing Butch now instead of 4 weeks does what for 2018 and beyond? Help recruiting? No. Help find a coach? No. So what does it do?
Not even close.
Dooley left better linebackers and an NFL offensive line. More productive WR's. Two SEC level RB's (current two are better though). NFL QB Peterman. Signed Cam Sutton.
Also technically left Tyler Bray and Butch couldn't convince him to stay.
Sure the roster as a whole is probably a bit better depth wise, but it's not as much better as many think.

One last time.
You clearly don't see the incompetency displayed on the sidelines of every game. Which also extends to the game plan, playbook, 2-deep, etc. they utilize for each game. As HC he makes those final decisions.
With termination the AD sends the message that continuing incompetency is not acceptable and gives consideration to 3 existing staff coaches that have been HC at previous employers to take over the interim job (or Fulmer if willing). They then get to demonstrate their expertise and value in difficult circumstances to prospective employers to rally a talented, but badly led and developed team to a bowl game where the players will benefit in many ways.
Dooley left a disaster at O line. Got one year out of the line kiffin recruited.
Talent is there at WR. They have been coached by a high school coach this year.
Running backs for next guy are WAY better.
Got 2 4* QB on roster and two still committed for next year.
Defensive line has 4* players both young and old guys returning.
Talent at LB as well. Ignont Bituli and Kirkland all coming back.
Better talent for the next guy. Much more depth and SEC bodies at offensive and defensive line.
Biggest area for improvement is the strength and conditioning. Our team looks like they do pilates instead of lifting weights.
If Currie has someone to announce as new HC today Butch would be publicly gone by now. He doesn't and probably doesn't want it to be a lingering question that then leads to prospective candidates being badgered with questions before they are ready for them. This is all stuff that matters.
If it's Gruden which I doubt it is then he isn't ready for an announcement. If it's someone Else it's because they have a current season to complete.
On a side note Football Scoop saying Taggert buyout would be easy for someone or himself to buyout. Sounds like Oregon AD pulled a Hammy and may get left in the dust.... he is a Florida native. Could be in play at FL if not TN would be smart to have him on our list as well knowing his buyout is $4.6 million which can be spread over 48 months
I wasn't around here in the spring but I would've been with you on it. I predicted a 6-6 regular season but honestly thought the talent was a bit better than that.
Both lines are going to be absolutely overhauled when a new coach comes in. Next year is going to be as ugly as this one, probably.
A lot of the expectations here are unreasonable. The roster is about even from where Dooley left it.
Throw * ratings out the window for QBs especially. Also its hard to count on our WRs for being any good. They were playing terrible with QD too drooping passes. Same with players like ignot who have barely made an impact.
