Recruiting Forum: UNofficial South Carolina Pre-Game Thread

All these Chicken fans down here in South Carolina basically said they will run us off the field.

I guess it's all about perspective.

In this picture, it looks like they are about to run us off the field.

And then there is this picure, which tells a different story.

I told him your not running anybody off the field with that garbage defense, and his only excuse was look how we hung with Auburn.

This will be a battle of our more talented youth vs. their experience. This is a very experienced SC group (with the exception of their secondary). It's also a battle of strengths vs. weaknesses (i.e. their OFF vs. our DEF and vice versa).

This game is close to a pick em in my opinion on a neutral field. I want to pick the upset here in the worst way (not that it matters), but the reality is this team still hasn't demonstrated they have learned how to win, especially on the road.

South Carolina wins 31-27. However, if we can control their D-line in passing situations and Dobbs & co. can beat their young secondary downfield on occassion, I think we pull the upset.

I picked Bama 41-6 last week and hoped to be pleasantly surprised. Pulling for the same this weekend.

Few other stats for reading enjoyment:

TN OFF vs. SC DEF

TN avg 23.9 ppg (98th in FBS) / SC avg 32.8 ppg (100th in FBS)

TN avg 227.5 pass yds per game (69th in FBS) / SC avg 229.1 pass yds per game (65th in FBS)

TN avg 104.9 rush yds per game (116th in FBS) / SC avg 208.4 rush yds per game (106th in FBS)

SC OFF vs. TN DEF

SC avg 35.1 ppg (32nd in FBS) / TN avg 22.9 ppg (40th in FBS)

SC avg 284.3 pass yds per game (30th in FBS) / TN avg 181.3 pass yds per game (13th in FBS)

SC avg 177.1 rush yds per game (58th in FBS) / TN avg 162.5 rush yds per game (68th FBS)

I could see the over/under easily being over 60.

Sounds like Wharton may get a few calls with the triple option this weekend.

Apparently they have been working with him and I'm assuming Pig on the triple option in practice this week. We saw the play a few times in the Bama game, where the slot motions and the ball is hiked right before they cross in front of the QB. The slot can take the snap, the RB can get the hand off, or the QB can keep it.

Gotcha.. sorry thought you meant old school triple option:)

It makes me really nervous because the timing has to be perfect. Every time we called it against Bama I thought it was going to hit Wharton.

It looked to me like the slot motion was just a decoy, not a read, on most plays. I never saw a triple option like you described. Not sure how that would work. Interesting idea. Maybe the QB and RB moving one way on the power read with the slot moving the opposite direction on the jet sweep? That's the only way I can think of that wouldn't be a mess to pull off.

At Spurrier's press conference today, he said they were going to wear black jerseys for the game. Also said there is a good chance they wear black pants.

Fortenberry said to look for some misdirection this week on offense. He thinks Hurd gets over 100 yards.

I would like to see us go with orange pants and white jerseys… The storm trooper unis haven't been good luck yet this year.

Possibly a direct snap to the slot in motion, or a possible fake hand off to the RB with a pass out to the slot to the side he motioned to. Just a guess though.

There are actually more options such as a fake to slot and RB with a QB drop back pass to the TE or WR.

You're one of those people who read a few words and ignore all the other words surrounding them.

And can't grasp hyperbole. Horrible combo

You're one of those people that comes to this board and pisses and moans and acts like he's an expert, but really isn't. Horrible combo.
