Recruiting Forum: UNofficial Vandy Pre-Game Thread

27 players that contribute were in HS last year.

That's young

Last game of the season and most of these guys have been playing their position the entire year. They know the playbook and should have their assignments down by now. I bet if you asked them, they would tell you that they aren't young in SEC football anymore.

A good line can make a bad playcaller look good, just like a bad line can make a good playcaller look bad. But make no mistake. Both our line and our playcalling suck right now.

Jake isn't playing any kind of smoke and mirrors. His play designs are bad. He doesn't even run set pass plays.

Those younguns' are effectively sophomores now.

Two problems with this. One, the biggest jump for young players happens during the offseason between their freshman and sophomore year. You can't get bigger during the season. That happens during the winter/summer. Two, every team in the country is gaining experience at the same rate. Relatively speaking, we're just as young as we were at the beginning of the year compared to everyone else. That doesn't change until classes turn over.

And just to clarify, I don't think any of that should matter in this game. We're just flat out playing bad.

We have one freshman on the OL and a couple TEs. Our fourth WR is a freshman. Then there's Hurd.

It's not like we're fielding a freshman team.

WTF can you change if the Oline is this bad? I don't care if we have the best OC in the whole damn nation, If we can't block anybody it's gonna affect the play calling.

How about calling plays that are setup by previous plays?

I haven't seen one this game or last week.

Gains happen in the offseason. Maintenance happens during the season.

I didn't say they wouldn't get bigger/better. I said they're not freshman any more. Youth is less of an excuse now than it was in September. If not we've definitely got the wrong coaches.

You would think after calling 100 swing passes, we would run a double move over the top of it where the outside WR pretends to block then releases deep. Still waiting for that though.

There's no excuse for this game to be this close. Period.

Vandy is far and away the worst team in the SEC.

Been waiting on that all year.

Setting it up for UF next year IMO.

You were talking specifically about the weight room though. I was just pointing out that there's not a huge amount of progress made during the season in the weight room.

I agree with that. I was talking generally as a player.

Instead VU runs something along those lines and scores a TD. Their TE is the only receiver we need to cover. The only one.
