Red Hats, you need to speak up on this

WTF happened to you? Does the Coronavirus affect your brain? This isn't like you.

I have a constant rage against politicians. Most of the time I ignore it and come here to goof around, cut jokes, etc. Every once in a while the volcano erupts and the hate spews forth. This is one of those times.

Not angry with anybody here. Having fun in other threads. But this thread gets my scorn.

I don't mind them owning stock but it must be in a blind trust cannot have an executor that is a family member.

I may even add an additional rule that they cannot sell/buy stock within 72 hours of a closed door briefing.

Serious Q, before the recent 3, can you remember the last politician investigated and prosecuted for insider trading? I cannot.

Blagovich? Something like that? Former gov of Illinois maybe in early obummer admin? Bet it's been 10 years since anyone was investigated...its been an historic bull market run. They should hang these clowns. They are both repub senators, which we absolutely need for a majority ..and I still say send em to prison

Put another Republican in their place until next election. Fire them immediately.

Let me ask you this. Let's say that you are 64 years old, retiring in 2 years, and find out that the travel industry would be hit hard by the virus, and you own stock in the travel industry. Would you sell, or stay invested, and ride it to the bottom, and lose your retirement?.

So you’re saying some should be above the law. You and every Republican in the House and Senate save Romney but only on 1 of 2 contact on Trump

Put all politicians who engaged in insider trading in jail

Are politicians and constituents equal under the law, or are they not?
I think the recent impeachment and subsequent circus called the Senate “trial” says no. What this whole process proved is the President is above the law. Some lame DOJ memo, now twice issued, has more clout than any law

If you can prove it, I have no problem charging them. But, I don't think you can. I'm just saying that most on here would sell if they were close to retiring and thought it was going down the tubes. He isn't the only person that thought it would go down the tubes. Some on here have been yelling sell, sell, sell.

if you don’t qualify as being labeled in inside trader you broke no law

I'm just taking a wait and see approach like I try to do on anyone's guilt or innocence. I don't know enough about it yet, and neither does anyone except the 4 people involved.

Sell without thinking twice.

At least you’d have money to pay the fine for trading on material nonpublic information.

Of course, as a member of the Senate, he has the argument that even closed door briefings are public information. I’m sure there’s caselaw on the subject.

I would be willing to bet that half of Washington D.C. knows about most anything told in a closed door meeting before the next business day ends..

What "law" did he break?

You put their assets into a blind trust. You prevent trading while a member of Congress. You apply the same principle of insider trading to our "public servants".

I think it would need to be truly blind; the legislator cannot call, speak, sign, smoke signal trading instructions. Everything is done up front, perhaps with put and stop instructions, and the account manager takes it from there.
