Regarding Pearl's Sudden Honesty....

No, it amazes me that we still have people who support someone who knowingly lied to the NCAA, realized "Oh ****, this could be bad", and then told the NCAA the truth.

I am amazed at the hate for Pearl from supposed Vol fans. I didn't realize that we had so many virtous saints
as fans.
It has been said "let he who is without sin, cast the first
stone".
What a bunch of sanctimonious frauds.:birgits_giggle:

Please tell me how many NCAA violations Bobby Knight has, please.

I did not say knight has multiple violations with the ncaa. I said he has multiple strikes. For whatever reason, physically assaulting players and your assistants has not been viewed as an ncaa violation. His lengthy record of run ins with others did lead to him being run out of town.

Bruce has gotten into trouble a total of no times before this...

By the way, another thing outside the ncaa that counts as a strike where multiples are not tolerated is duis. If a basketball coach is squeaky clean with the ncaas and picks up 1 dui that is plead down he usually has no serious reprecussions. If he has two more he is going to jail and will be fired.

The question I have in all of this is when Bruce Pearl spoke to the NCAA in June, did the UT Athletic department know about this (or more specifically, Mike Hamilton)? If I am the AD, and my head coach of any sport is being questioned by the NCAA, I think I would like to know why the NCAA is doing this. It seems to me the compliance department (or whatever) would be involved with the questioning. I cannot imagine that the athletic department did not know about the initial questioning. If they didn't, then we have bigger issues with Mike Hamilton that what we have now.

I'm no Pearlite but seriously it's pretty easy to get an enemy/rival to talk about a fellow enemy/rival. Just saying.

I'm not talking about the fact that an enemy was talking about Pearl. I'm talking about the fact that what he said pretty much describes Pearl exactly.

Yes he knew. He had already hired an expert in NCAA investigations before Pearl lied.

There aren't as many haters as you think. They are just a vocal minority around here. It's pretty easy to see through them if you pay attention.

It goes like this....when I was a young lad, I took some change from my parent's dresser. Later when I was confronted...

Mom: Where did you get the bag of candy.
Me: Mikie gave it to me.
Mom: Ok! By the way...what can you tell me about the missing change from the dresser?
Me: What? Nothing...I didn't take it, honest?
Mom: Ok...wait here, I'll get your Dad.
Me: I TOOK THE MONEY...WAAAA I TOOK IT, I'M SORRY, I'LL NEVER DO IT AGAIN, PLEASE DON"T TELL DAD....you can punish me, ground me, I don't care..JUST don't tell Dad.

He hasn't been punished for the phone violations, He is being punished for not being honest with the NCAA and if you think whats happened so far will satisfy them you better put your season tickets on E-BAY.

Are you implying to know something or is this speculation?

You've been proven wrong twice already, just get your head out of the sand and face the facts. Our coach may be exciting on the court, but off of it he's just as corrupt with his principles as he is with his morals.

Is this directed toward me? What was i proven wrong about? I didn't even realize I was trying to prove anything.

That it was three weeks when I was just "speculating" and that Bruce acted as if he was a saint on the recruiting trail.

Never seen Bruce say he acted as if he was a saint on the recruiting trail. I have, on the other hand, have seen him say he has to watch his steps more closely than others because coaches wanted him nailed.

BTW for all that think this is such a heinous act, which is the minority, do you want Pearl fired for his first misstep with the NCAA?

The speculating comment wasn't directed at you, the post I quoted was NYYVol and his discussion with another poster. If they were both arguing without really proving anything, then they were both speculating. It wasn't meant as an attack on anyone. I think you are reading too much into it.

As for Bruce on the recruiting trail, I keep seeing people reference how he has acted like a saint on the recruiting trail and has spent the last 20 years talking about 'doing what is right'. I'm pleading ignorance here and looking to other posters because I honestly don't know if he did or didn't. So far I've been given one article from 5 1/2 years ago where Pearl said he was an 'idealist' and would do the same thing in the Illinois situation if he had it to do over again, and another article where he said he would have to watch his step because other coaches would be out to get him. Two quotes in 20+ years is hardly a pattern. I'm assuming there must be more, but I just haven't seen them yet.

As for the "three weeks", check my post here: http://www.volnation.com/forum/tennessee-vols-basketball/109133-what-i-told-7.html#post4008918
