Notre Dame isn't forcing anybody to rank then highly or give them TV contracts. If it were your favorite school, you'd love it.

I get just as annoyed with their over hyped crap. But it has settled down a lot lately, and pre season rankings simply don't matter, the product on the field does. So...

What is dumb is guaranteeing nd a bcs bowl as long as they have a 15 ranking or higher. This knocks the tcu's and boises of the world out of millions of dollars. This kind of preference for certain teams, think Texas, is what leads to the conference breakups we now see. So calling Reilly dumb is ignoring his overall point. Even with all these advantages, nd has squandered their position of advantage, and deserve preference no longer.

Wait a second . . . Notre Dame gets a $1.3 million bowl bonus when it doesn't even go to a bowl???? Is this true? If so, where does the money come from?

The guarantee is for if Notre Dame finishes in the top 8, not 15. Top 15 can warrant them at large eligibility (same as any non-BCS conference member), however it does not clinch them a berth.

That's part of the article that didn't make sense to me. It wouldn't make sense for ND to decline a lucrative TV contract.

Oh that makes it much better then, Fact is it is a de facto guarantee, who would pick Boise ranked 10 th over nd at 15 for an at large? no one is arguing that nd should look a gift horse in the mouth. It is that even when they do have a decent season, they can relegate a better team to a lesser bowl, and a lesser payout. If nd bumped tn from a 4 mil bowl to a 1 mil bowl due to this I'm sure the nd apologists would change their tune. Texas almost destroyed their conference with this strategy. I mean Nebraska and a and m left, what does that tell ya. Nd being independent in fb only says to everyone, our brand is strong, we want a disproportionate amount of revenue, although the teams they beat decades ago are partly responsible for their popularity. They don't pull this stunt in bb. It's is patently unfair to all others to give one school such a decided advantage. I thought this march towards a playoff was meant to address issues like these.

If Boise was ranked 10th, they'd have already received an automatic berth, having been (most likely) the highest-ranked champion of a non-BCS conference and in the top 12.

I didn't mention cussing, you did. Can't remember the article but his antics last year had some parents concerned and coach admitted he needs to handle it differently. I'm not one for babying players nor humiliating them with 5 million people watching, so your declarative is typical.

It's a passionate game. He had a group that screwed things up royally. He yelled. Big friggin deal. If mommy and daddy don't like it, tell them to take Johnny to a school where coaches don't yell. good luck.

By the way, if you hate yelling, you better turn your head when the camera cuts to the sideline and shows Sunseri this year. You might even cry.

I didn't mention any of these tangents. The man blew a gasket numerous times on his players on national tv. Enough for it to make sc and bring negative pr to his program. He can handle it his way, but does not mean its wise. Dools gets on players but not to the point his face is beet red and the veins are bulging from his neck. IMO Kelley needs to work on his poise and self control and players may take to his coaching better. You are making juvenile assumptions to buttress an argument. Passion, excuses, minimizing, mommy and daddy, johnny, yelling again, equivocation, then the crying. Lol. You are not even sure what youre arguing, considering kelley himself said he needs a diff aproach. All that said, I think nd should be compensated more in games than some, because they bring viewers and thus more advertisers. I don't think they should be shown any favoritism in bowl selection or monies paid when not making a bowl.

Kelley said what he said to appease the folks who, like the fairytale believers that we have following our program, think that there's one certain way to do things. Should he tone it down a little? Sure. But there's no denying the guy has been pretty damn successful.

Dooley doesn't get on players, he lays them on Kingston Pike and runs the bus over them. Anything to make himself look better. But hey, when you've failed miserably as a head man you gotta do what you gotta do.
